Perfect for our 2 year old
We purchased this playset for our son's 2nd birthday. I did alot of research before purchasing and heavily debated between this set and a larger wooden set. All of my friends recommended I go ahead and get the bigger set so he could use it longer - for the amount of money, it seemed like the best thing to do. He loves the bigger sets at the playground and I didn't want him to be bored with a "baby" playset. However, I wanted something he could do all by himself, and I didn't like the sharp corners or wood splinter possibilities of the wooden set, so I resigned myself that even if he only used it a year, we'd have a great year. Now that it's here, I am VERY glad we purchased this set. I think it will last him many years and he loves it. My son is on the tall side for his age, and a pretty good climber, but he's not as fearless as other kids I know. The 3, 4 and 6 year old at his party played on it as well and had just as much fun. The product recommends 3-8 years of age, but I think 6 is probably topping it out.) Installation was a breeze. However, I highly recommend obtaining one terrific husband who never complains first. He did work in the garage some late nights and had to reference the assembly video on the Step 2 website a couple of times, but overall, I truly didn't hear any swearing. There appeared to be approximately 4,327 parts which all arrived in 2 huge boxes on pallets. I cut some windows and doors in the boxes and voila! the kids had as much fun with the boxes as the playset.) The playset itself is sturdy and the colors blend great in our yard. The swings were a little high, so we added a bit of chain to lower the swings. The basketball hoop on the side is bigger than I expected, and while my son doesn't have a "real" basketball, his larger balls fit just fine. The upper fort has a steering wheel and appropriately placed handles to help climb the ladder and go down the slide. There are no sharp corners anywhere and the ladder has large flat steps that are easy to climb. The bottom of the slide sits on the ground, which looked funny to me (there are no legs or braces that elevate the slide) and caused the kids to slide right off to the ground with a bump, but they didn't mind. I can't think of anything I don't like about this playset. Oh yes I can - the price. I think it was a little pricey, but maybe I am just cheap - it IS a great product and I would buy again.)

SO happy with this set
Decided to purchase this after looking around for a reasonable sized swing set that could grow with my toddler. Either the slides on the sets were too small or the set was overpriced. This set fell right in the middle and had extras like the basket ball hoop the rope ladder and multiple swings! This takes a while to put together- it has so many parts- but the instructions are great. My husband was able to put it together by himself but perhaps that's why it took a bit longer. My son is three- but a very tall 3 (he's as tall as an average size 5 year old) and this set is absolutely perfect worth the money. I liked the colors they weren't too bright and would blend into the backyard. I thought I would have preferred the wood look but this is better as it hasn't lost color (like most of the wooden sets) it looks like it just came out of the box. My son uses every inch of this set whether he's playing by himself or with his friends. The slide is quite long (much longer that most other products of this size) and I like that he can use it for wuite some time. The playhouse is great sizeable the ripe ladder is safer than I thought it would be, it has been very sturdy- i have not had any issues- we put it up for my son's b-day party it had multiple users and no issues. We didn't need cement or anything- we judt used what was in the box to hold it down. I would highlyr ecommend.

Was not fun to put together but was totally worth it.
My kids love this. It is very good quality and has lasted us a year so far with no issues. Got all of the parts. The directions were easy to follow. Make sure you have 2-3 people for assembly. It looks exactly as advertised.

Good playset with some work
My son has been playing with this play set for a couple months (he's now 22 months old) and loves it. He's obviously not going up the rope ladder or using the basketball hoop, but the rest is a ton of fun for him. He actually started playing with it before all four walls of the fort were even up and has not stopped since. It appears to be pretty durable. However, I expect that the canopy will probably have to be replaced after a year or two, and I'm planning to take down the swings and rope ladder during the winter months to prolong the ropes' lifespan unless the play set gets used in the cold weather. From an assembly standpoint, it went together pretty easily except that A) a couple of the holes in the plastic didn't line up exactly right and had to be reamed out for the bolts to go through properly, B) a couple screws/bolts/nuts were missing from the box and two eye bolts jammed in the barrel nuts and twisted off during assembly (but Step1 sent replacements for all quickly with no hassle), and C) the rope ladder seemed to be about 1 inch too short even stretching it as much as I could, so I had to use clamps in order to stretch them further (it's super tight now, so that's actually good). One more thing: one of the handles at the slide wasn't fully formed during molding so there's a "hole" along the seam for it's whole length. However, it hasn't affected anything structurally (I can't squeeze it to deform it). I just wanted to point out all manufacturing defects. All in all, a great play set that should last many years!

Fun playset, but quality control lacking
My son loves this. He has a ton of fun with the parts that are currently together. This brings me to the problems. The quality control is lacking with this product. When I initially got the playset delivered I was sent the same swingset pole twice and one additional pole instead of 3 distinct poles for everything. This was frustrating, but they sent me the correct pole no questions asked. I was able to build the fort part of the playset while I waited for the new pole. Once the new pole arrived I began to put the A-frames and swingset and glider poles together. The swingset pole was perfect, everything lined up and it was great. The glider pole was not. The holes were visibly crooked and did not line up in any way. I could not get the anchor pin in and then when I attempted to put the glider parts that connect at the pole one of them was about 45 degrees off due to the mis drilling of the holes in the pole. They are once again sending me a new pole for that part. Once I get that pole I am confident it will be all together finally. Other than the issues, the set was fairly easy to put together by myself. I had to get some help once or twice, but it would have been possible to do it all by myself if I had to I think. The reason I am not giving it less than 4 stars is for a few reasons. 1. Like I said, my son loves the thing. He has had a blast playing with it and his baby brother should have fun too when he is old enough. 2. Even though the quality control was not great, the customer service was top notch.(and get this, they were in America!) They were super nice. They didn't question me in any way and immediately sent me new parts. Hopefully once the new pole arrives everything will work as expected and we will enjoy this playset for years to come. I may have just been an anomaly and had some bad luck, I don't know. I'm just glad they have been great about replacing things for me. I think I would still buy it again if I had the opportunity.

Great playground
We have had our playground for a full year officially. It does take quite a long time to put together but it’s so worth it. My boys have so much fun. Only one tiny complaint is that the shade on top has faded so much. However that couldn’t be helped as my yard is 100% fully in the sun. We do not have any trees or shade. Other than that, I love it. Great product and would definitely recommend for little toddlers.

Great set for small children.
The play set arrived last Thursday (9/11/2014) and the delivery men placed the 2 large boxes in my daughter's back yard as requested. No damage. I opened both boxes and was surprised to see each contained a check list of parts packed. Very nice. The instruction book contained 133 steps (ugh), all of them pictures (double ugh). But by carefully studying the pictures I was able to put the set together by myself with only a few minor difficulties, and a helping hand every now and then, in about 7 hours. The instructions did have a couple of errors, but they were not egregious, and is about average for a large product. Yes, the playhouse is a bit small, so if your children are tall they will have to stoop to play inside. I have to say that after having read some of the negative reviews, I was pleasantly surprised and totally satisfied with the product. My grandchildren are just 3 yrs. old and love it.

Great playset!
We bought this product for our two boys - ages 4 and 2. We looked at larger wood sets, but because we have a cautious 4 year old and a fearless 2 year old, the wood sets all seemed to have slides and open gaps that were too tall/dangerous for our needs. This set is as safe as I have seen - no large gaps where children could fall from tall heights like the taller wood sets. It took my husband and father between 4-5 hours to assemble it from start to finish ...not bad at all. The boys absolutely love the playset and it looks great. The only drawback I see is that it will likely not last us for more than 3-5 years simply because of the weight restrictions associated with it. The good news is that the Step2 products have decent resale value, so we plan to enjoy it to its fullest and then resell it to purchase a larger wood set down the road.
