Superb - every house should have one
I can't really fault this thing. It is a great piece of equipment. Robust and reliable. I particularly like the fact that I can run virtual machines and docker containers. Word of warning, I use USB TV tuners devices with NAS, these are now only supported on DSM v6, the newer DSM v7 does not support these USB Tuners. That aside, can't rate it high enough.

Fan noise
Okay this would have got 5 stars but it turns out the ds220+ has a problematic fan. There is a constant ticking noise coming from the unit’s fan, this is not the hard drives as if you remove them the noise is still present, a quick google will tell you this is a common problem with this unit, to the point people have actually replaced the fan. This noise is not loud, but if the unit is near you (in my case on my desk) there is no escaping it. If the NAS is not near you, you will be fine, so I will be relocating mine. Altering the fan speed settings in the units control panel does not resolve as it ticks at any rpm. After researching I decided against replacing the fan as the 3rd pin does not behave correctly upon fan failure with a generic 3 pin fan, and the back fan face plate will not work with a generic fan. All very annoying, my previous synology was silent. Reading about the people who have rma’d the unit the replacements have been exactly the same. So a very nice looking NAS ruined by a clicking fan.

Brand New??
OK - so I ordered 8TB 2 Bay Synology DS220+ from Amazon. It came the next day and when I opened it, everything looked prefect. But the sticker that held the protective cover over the NAS wasn't sticking. I didn't think much about it.So I installed the NAS and created a volume but it was only giving me 1.68tb per disc (RAID0) I thought that was strange, so I powered it down and removed the WesternDigital drives to find they where 2TB DRIVES... Not 4TB...I've check the box and the NAS is listed at 8TB....So either a fault at Synology packing dept..... OR someones done a switch of the drives at some point..... GRRRRRRRR

Sold in the UK with a Euro plug
Bought on Amazon UK, was delivered with a Euro plug. In past times, I wouldn't have cared so much except last year I did a lockdown clearout, and all my old 'kettle' leads were disposed of that weren't already plugged in to something. So I can't use this today. Or the next day. Shouldn't have been sold in the UK with a useless cable, and I might just be able to get one by the weekend.
