this book is v v good on basic beginnings of learning the dutch language.. it starts from scratch to full blown dutch , just how'd u really expect from the dutch masters n that .

This book helped me to prepare for moving to the Netherlands to live with my Dutch then-boyfriend (he is now my husband and I have integrated pretty well, though I say so myself). The progression is logical and the vocabulary is well thought out. The reason it gets four stars is that there are some basic errors in things like gender agreement (e.g. it should be *het* gordijn) and the pronunciation guide is not always the most helpful. Although I appreciate that it's almost impossible to explain Dutch diphthongs without the reader having heard/seen them pronounced, there are ways to help, such as with pictures of mouth shapes and explanation of the different vowel sounds that make up the diphthong. That said, even though you'll sound very foreign, this book really will help you to learn how to hold a Dutch conversation in three months.

Great book for beginners!

We purchased this with a view to learning Dutch as members of our family had moved to Holland and thought it might be of some benefit to us when we visited them. We found it very difficult to get any benefits from it at all - the language being a very difficult one to learn and eventually gave up trying!! Visitors to Holland, we subsequently found out, generally have no difficulty in conversing in English so a knowledge of Dutch, however small, is not really needed! It was different for our grandchildren who lived there for several years, learned Dutch and became fluent Dutch speakers without any language aids!

A sound grammatically based introduction to Dutch which I have found invaluable, since I have studied three other European languages using a grammatically based approach. Each chapter introduces the "next step" grammatically, and also includes a manageable chunk of everyday Dutch. If you have a knowledge of German, you'll find Dutch has huge similarities, apart from the devilish pronunciation of course. Probably the hardest language to pronounce that I've ever encountered. But Jan Fenoulhet does an excellent job. ( And for those who never mastered grammar at school, don't be deterred. You can make up a lot of ground from using this book. )The book is accompanied by CDs which are audio versions of the exercises, drills, and conversations of every chapter in the book. I've ripped these from the CD to my computer, and split them up individually, then burned them onto a CD for the car. This is brilliant, since you can set a car stereo CD to "repeat track", and really get the language imprinted in you mind.The MP3 originals I've copied to my MP3 player for use in other circumstances.

Great item & price!

I think it would take most people more than three months to get the full benefit of this book, but it's very useful.

This is the first time that I`m learning a language on this way and I`m satisfied it goes so far. I`ll recommend the book, for sure.Thing is the CD which follow this book has not arrived.

I think it is really a recommended book for Dutch learning beginners. If you work hard, you can easily finish it within one month. But I found there are some small mistakes in the book. I also think it is better to learn with its CD.

My wife is Dutch and if I'm ever to live there as a citizen I'll have to learn Dutch and this book looks well-rounded enough to get me there.It has useful pronunciation guides and starts off easy as it progresses to more difficult content.Try one.

This is an informatively book, to learn the language in 3 months is a bit of a stretch (for me at least).

Great material for my Dutch intro class. Lessons and excursuses in each chapter and easy to follow and my Dutch teacher and Dutch boyfriend say it's a great book for learning!!
