This coffee pot works well and the coffee is good. I use Cafe du Monde from a can.Coffee snobs would think that I don't know anything about coffee, but I love good and hot coffee and I am extremely particular.I like my coffee to be full bodied and taste very rich. I do not care how much you spend on a fancy drip coffee maker that makes claims of reaching a certain temperature...you don't get hot coffee for more than 5 or 10 minutes. You will only get that with a percolator. After many years of using a variety of drip coffee makers, I decided to pull my 4 cup Farberware pot out and the coffee was so much better and hot. Problem is the Farberware pot is a little bit small for me and I don't like that it doesn't have an indicator light. I was forgetting to unplug it too often. Generally it is only me drinking coffee so I didn't want a pot that was 12 or more cups and I came across this 8 cup Hamilton Beachs and has an indicator light so I can see that it is still plugged in.The first time I used it I thought that the coffee tasted bitter, but by the second pot the coffee was really good but very strong. I am using a regular coffee scoop, not a small one like for expresso. I found that I needed less coffee in this pot. If i make 4 cups I use 2 scoops. The coffee is very rich not weak at all. I found my taste and now it is perfect every time. The number of cups is written inside the coffee pot. I find it a little hard to read but I have that problem with any percolator that has the measurement inside. Some reviews said that the clear piece on the top came apart. from the lid. Who knows, maybe with time mine will break but I don't see how that would happen unless you are putting it in the dishwasher. It is very easy to clean this pot with soapy water in the sink. It cleans easily. The lid turns to a locked position. You unlock it and take it out. You don't even need to pull. It's a very good coffee pot, easy to use, easy to clean, makes delicious coffee. I think as good as it gets...and it looks beautiful. I am very happy with my purchase,

A great product with a handsome design
I am writing this review because this is a great product with several features to love. The size is appropriate to make 8 cups of coffee. I specifically liked that the heating element is hidden in a separate compartment beneath the water compartment. Made with good quality stainless steel, including the stem, the 'well' the stem sits in, the coffee filter basket and the cover; basically all the parts that come in touch with water are stainless steel. The lid has a glass see-through window and a locking mechanism. The handle appears to be sturdy, well-made and protects fingers from touching the percolator wall while picking up the gadget. In addition, it comes with the auto-shut-off feature, a light that turns ON to indicate when coffee is ready, the stay-warm feature which maintains the temperature of coffee if you want to get it a little later or come back for refills. I also love the sound of coffee percolating and looking at the window on top of the lid for the color of coffee. Overall, this percolator has a very handsome design. I used it the first time for our annual holiday get-together last December and it performed very well. The guests, as well as we, came back for refills and we were delighted how the coffee still tasted great and not scorched or bitter from sitting in the percolator for well over an hour, may be up to almost two hours.

... to purchase another HB percolator after reading so many bad reviews. have only used this one a few ...
i was dubious to purchase another HB percolator after reading so many bad reviews. have only used this one a few times but is working fine at the moment. i did buy this one to replace the 4 cup hamilton of same shape design. only thing different on this one is the glass top. This glass top does get extremely hot but hopefully it will hold up as the last one got stress fracture along the threads and fell off. I would say to HB that it is a shame they do not sell replacement parts such as the glass top. Obviously that is the most fragile part, but they only have replacements on their most recent models. Seems once they change a design they no longer sell any parts, which forces consumer to purchase an entirely new unit. Nonetheless, as their pot seems the best choice for Non Aluminum parts, what else can one do? I sure hope this one last longer than a few years.I nearly did Not order this unit simply because the photo online is totally wrong! I am happy to find that it is in the same bright chrome finish as before

Makes a great cup of joe without all the plastic parts
So far, we love this coffee pot. We're doing our best to cut out toxic things in our life, and it occurred to me that our coffee maker was made of plastic, so the water was being heated in a plastic shell, which undoubtedly was leaching toxins into the water. So I started looking at percolators. I remember them from years ago when my parents had one. The whole kitchen always smelled like freshly brewed coffee every morning. After a lot of consideration, I chose this one and I'm glad I did. It's working really well, it's pretty fast, the coffee taste great, it smells wonderful and it really does keep it fresh and hot all day long, without the burnt taste you get from the modern coffee makers. If I could change one thing on it, it'd be the clear bubble at the top. I wish it was glass instead of a hard plastic, but it's not like the coffee is sitting in plastic. It's just hitting it for a second while percolating. Other percolators have plastic inserts to show you how full it is, etc. This one has nothing plastic inside to touch the coffee. It's all stainless steel, which is what I wanted. Hopefully it'll last as long as the old percolators did, but not holding my breath. Nothing these days is made to last.
