The Most Popular Gift My Kids Got for Christmas...
I purchased this book for my 4 year old, but when he unwrapped it and set it aside to go on to the next gift, the book was quickly picked up by the other adults in the room. They were absolutely fascinated by the gorgeous paper sculptures in the book. They oohed and ahhed over them, and looked the book over several times before they relinquished the book to the next curious adult.Superficially, the book is a counting book where the reader tries to find one red dot in the middle of "eight obedient orbs", etc.. However, the book is ultimately a work of art. The paper sculptures are are abstract and interactive, and completely stunning. I'm a fan of Sabuda's pop-up books, but I just love the playful abstract nature of this book.My four year old finally got his book back, and he, too, loves it and reads it every night before bed.

Incredible. Priceless. You are lucky if you own this book.
This book and the man who makes them (there’s more than one book and they are all incredible) is a genius. This is a must own for any age and any collection…. unless you are very very jaded and or have no feelings.

even good for a baby
Just adding to the praise. My son is now 5.5 months old, and we got this book when he was about 4 months old. He has been fascinated with it the whole time; we "read" it about six or seven times a day, and it is by far his favorite (the other favorite is "where's the bone" by manhattan toys). Regarding fragility, the twisting twirly gigs stopped twisting pretty soon, and the wiggle wobble widgets never worked quite right, but the fluttering flicker clickers are surprisingly durable; they still clatter very nicely. I do wish it were not made of paper but something my son could touch; he is so enamored of the pieces that he constantly lunges for them and it feels terrible to hold him back.I still can't find one of the red dots. It is driving me crazy.

A wonderful book....but.....
I loved the book. The pop-ups are wonderful...with the exception of one double page spread. The one with three crowns tore on the first opening. This was the center large one. I repaired it, but it tore again in a different spot. I repaired that and one of the smaller crowns tore next.I went ahead and gave it as a gift to a young grandchild but anticipate this particular spread will not last long. The paper is too thin for the stress required to open the pop-ups. The rest of the book is great and will be a delight for the child.

Great conversation piece!
This is a wonderful book. I love it! I am going to keep it out on my coffee table in a tray for guests to look at and enjoy. It is a great conversation piece and immediately caught the eye of the first friend I had over. The artwork is beautiful and ingenious. I can't wait to have all four books in the set. I really enjoy David A. Carter's art/designs. His children's books are also very enjoyable.

I've ordered two other books by Carter because I loved this one.
I'm an English tuition teacher to children ranging from 3-16 years old, and the kids that I've shown this book to have absolutely loved it. My current copy is beginning to show signs of distress (not tearing of parts, just general wear-and-tear.. The kids are gentle with the book and I do keep an eye on them when they're reading it), but to me, it just shows how engaging the book is to the kids. They love finding the red dots within the book, and seeing how the pop-ups are tucked in when they close each page.I've already ordered two other books by David Carter and really look forward to receiving them. :)If you'd like to see a video of what the book looks like inside, visit this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45Y5Vlq8GcY

Really excellent pop up book. Not only is it gorgeous, but it has just the right amount of pop up intricacy
Really excellent pop up book. Not only is it gorgeous, but it has just the right amount of pop up intricacy, so I can see giving it to a 3 or 4 year old, perhaps with supervision at first, or showing the child how to do it. Or if the child can read it when shown how. Probably nest as book to read together, and I think children will one fascinated and engaged. The adults will enjoy the esthetics and children will be introduced to a beautiful graphic and design, even if they don't know it.
