Quick, easy and convienant
This is the first indoor grill I've ever owned. And I have to say, it's wonderful. No real setup. Just unpack and read the instructions. I've cooked hamburgers on three occasions and a boneless steak once and all came out very well. Clean up is also very easy. I have a microwave device for cooking bacon, so I can't answer to that. However, on examining the unit, I think that maybe lining the drip tray with aluminum foil might reduce the chances of the plastic tray cracking from the heat of the grease as reported by other users. You couldn't wrap the foil over the edges, but just laying the foil in the bottom may prevent the tray from cracking.Pre-heating of the unit takes only about 2 minutes, The cord is short, as pointed out by other reviewers. If you use a power strip, make sure it can handle the1400 or so watts this thing pulls. There is no booklet on cooking times, but a simple search of "foreman cooking times" or "foreman cooking times pdf" (I use the second) will give you a good guide to cooking on this unit. As this is my first unit, I found that this unit apparently cooks faster than the times for the Foreman unit, so I would take off 1 minute for each item if cooked individually. Test and see what your preferences are.I'm single and heating up a stove for cooking for just myself seemed a little excessive. So I am very happy with my unit so far. It does give off a little smoke on a steak, but not enough to set off my very sensitive smoke detector..I think you like it. It's a very nice unit.

Buy this one instead of a George Foreman!
I LOVE THIS GRILL!!! I have had it for several months now. I have owned two previous counter top grills, the previous one being a large George Foreman one with non-removable plates. When it bit the dust, I was determined to get one with removable plates, but the problem was that I couldn't sacrifice the size. I used every inch of the GF one (88 sq in I think). I couldn't find a removable plate grill that big. Enter this one. It is smaller, but it opens completely flat so that when flat it is 100 sq in, bigger than my old one. I could make that sacrifice. 50 sq in with lid for small cooking and 100 sq in and no lid for large cooking. Here's the thing, because this one is square, I am able to fit just as much food in the 50 sq in as I did on the oblong 88 sq in of the GF. Plus the GF had cold spots on the ends that limited the actual cooking space.Other things I love about this grill. The non-stick coating is excellent. Most of the time rinsing with the sink sprayer gets everything off whereas with my GF, I had to SCRUB!!! I still run the plate thru the dishwasher just for good measure. Also, the grease drip tray is plenty big AND (I wasn't expecting this) even when it's open flat, the top section is designed to run in to the grease tray as well. Very well done.I will say that it has much larger grates on it so it doesn't leave the same attractive grill marks, but I don't really care about that. It does leave a nice flat top type glaze on the meat.In our house, this is the type of appliance that stays on the counter most days because we use it so often. When it dies from exhaustion, I will buy another one like this.

bit heavy on the top
don't expect your hamburgers to stay thick. The weight of the top smashes the burger to a thinner version of itself.Otherwise it cooks well and cleans up easily. Pork chops came out well but the bone kept the cooking a bit uneven since the top was unable to touch all of the chop. I like that you can set the temperature and also doesn't overcook the meat like a couple of grills I have bought. Haven't used it for bacon or pancakes so I can't comment on that aspect but would think that it would be fine. Grease container does a good job catching the grease.update: tried cooking 12 oz package of bacon. Not the results I wanted. some parts of the bacon were crisp and others not. I will stick with my microwave technique.......paper towels on large microwave safe plate. Add about 6 or 7 pieces, put towels on top along with a cover and cook for about i minute less than the number of pieces I have on the plate. If not cooked to my liking, I just add 30 seconds. Easy cleanup. Toss paper towels into trash and start over for rest of package. It seems that it is actually quicker and you have more consistent cooked bacon.

One of my best purchases in a long time
This item was backordered on Amazon for 2 months but it was definitely worth the wait! I've had it for a week but have already used it 3 times. I've grilled a tuna steak, salmon filet, ham steak, and fresh asparagus.Pros:- Compact size. It easily fits under the counter in the cupboard.- Unlike many other models, the lid can lay down completely flat. Instead of grilling on one side and then using a skillet to grill a different item, I easily grilled two items at the same time.- The plates cool down quickly; I can pop them out and easily handle them for washing within 15-20 minutes of turning the unit off.- The plates are not overly heavy, making clean up easy. I can stack them in my dish drainer without making the drainer fall over because of the weight.- Heats quicklyCons:- The cord is very short - 24". This may sound long, but since it's attached at the back, when the lid is opened flat you are limited to having the cord perpendicular to the unit. Hard to explain, but I have a big kitchen with a number of plugs and I have found only one location that works for me.Other points:- The ridges on the grill are not as close together as a regular barbecue grill or the electric grill I had previously. Not really a big deal, but if you are expecting grill marks close together, you will not get it.I'm considering leaving this out on my counter because I'm using it so often! You won't be disappointed.

Great product
Absolutely love this grill. Had a Foreman but this grill is much better. The indicator lights for power and when it comes to temp are a great plus. Cleanup could not be easier unless someone else did it for you .Lots of space to cook four burgers(could probably squeeze five ). The picture shows six but they must be sliders.

Versatile and works well
This grill arrived very quickly and was exactly as described. I've only had it for less than a week but have used it 3 or 4 times with good success already. There's a bit of a trade-off between versatility and the grilling functions, or I would've given it 5 stars; to have the griddle plate, you sacrifice the grill design on the top plate, so there's a little adjustment to be done in cooking around that. However there are probably plenty of times the griddle option will be useful. The plates are lighter weight than the George Foreman ones, but they cleanup well and work well. It's also great to have the variable temperature option. The drip tray is a great feature, works well and makes clean-up so easy! The other good feature is the adjustable grill height and slant to help drain fat and juices away when needed. I'm thinking this will work well for grilling vegetables too. And yes, it does work very nicely for grilled veggies as well as meat! We're enjoying it!

Super easy to clean and heats quickly
This works great as a clam shell. I have not yet tried it as a flat cooking surface. One thing that would be nice to have as an option is to lock the clamshell partially open 4 melting cheese on top of your hamburgers. My previous Grill had that option and it was awesome.
