If you want a rugged phone consider this.
I purchased this phone after my Samsung started going out. I wanted a rugged phone due to my job and I haven't been disappointed with this phone.Example# 1: I left this phone on the roof of my patrol vehicle and I took off. My phone went sliding off and hit the concrete at 25MPH. I realized what happened and went back to it. The phone just had a scuff. No cracked screen (no screen protector), no broken buttons, and it still works fine.Example# 2: I had to get into an altercation with an individual and this phone went flying during the ensuing activity. After all was calm, I picked up my phone from the roadway where it landed face down. There was no damage to it.I don't use a case or screen protector. This phone has survived downpours, falls, and toddlers. I am fully satisfied with the Sonim XP8 and will be purchasing more Sonim products.

Dual SIM feature is misleading
Dual SIM feature does NOT work. I have been in direct contact with SONIM regarding my XP8 on this issue. They have been borderline rude in telling me that the dual SIM feature is for "future development" and is not available- like in a "how dare you even ask that" way. However on page 21 on their own user manual it outlines how to enable and use both SIM slots. So- if you live and work in rural and/or remote areas where you have to piece together cell coverage from different carriers do not rely on this phone to do that. You will either have to carry a second phone, or just find a different brand ( like my co-workers have done) that will actually function with dual SIM slots. On the XP8's, as soon as the phone detects there are two SIM cards, it automatically disables the #2 slot and there is absolutely no way to enable it. And YES- the phone is unlocked, and YES- I even accessed the Developer Mode to see if the option was there maybe.Otherwise its an okay phone, but good portion of our agency's SONIM's developed cloudy screens several months after getting them. There are better options.

I've never intentionally wanted to break my phone to get a new one, then I bought a XP8...
I wanted to like the Sonim XP8 (XP8800) and there is not much of anything to like about this phone in anyway shape or form. It's heavy, buttons are misplaced and bad. Antenna hump does nothing to improve signal strength, in fact it's worse than most phones not intended for emergency comm. The Sonim software is a joke, the POGO plugs are worthless unless you buy overpriced junk accessories which are very limited. Doesn't even have a 3.5mm plug, and the bluetooth is shoddy. You are getting nothing but a rugged chinese knockoff android posing as a radio too, but this is nothing of the sort. Get a good case for your iPhone.I can guarantee that Apple will be around in a few years if you need repair or replacement, but I would give strong odds that the strip mall based Sonim will be no more by 2022, so good luck with support. BTW - I'm a stockholder in this company, so I lose more than phone support when they dissolve, but so be it, it had to be said that their products are outdated, overpriced, overweight garbage. If your municipality is looking to buy these, fire the person who made that decision.

Good reliable and really rugged
It was risky choice not knowing this company or phone durability but I needed something that works in hot and cold weather, and is reliable in the rain so I gave it a shot. I hated one thing about smartphones, wet screen, However this phone offers features that i was looking for and It does really good in various weather conditions

Pure garbage
Like another reviewer posted, the flashlight comes on by itself. Others say it’s buggy. I call it clunky along with buggy!! Transitioning through apps is NOT something this phone does well. The controls seem out of place to me. I have always and still do use Apple iPhones. I use the Sonim at work. Yeah this phone truly sucks!! This would never entice me to go android!!The one thing it seems to be okay at is it possible could handle some drops. I’m not saying drop yours and test it, as the screen might crack. Around the screen is a raised edge.
