I was kind of shocked how expensive they've become so I started looking for an alternative. I discovered the Anova brand and bought this model. I've been very pleased with the performance and ease of operation.Some people have complained that they cannot use Foodsaver brand rolls in this, well I use that brand since I had a numerous rolls left when my old machine died. Happily the roll works perfectly in this new Anova machine.What stands out to me is that this double seals the bags which gives me much more confidence that the contents are air-tight.What bothers me a little bit is that it does take longer for this to seal the bag than my previous machine. But that is just a minor complaint.The build quality seems fine to me and the suction power is great. No issues so far and I've had this for about 6 months and use it several times a week.

I instantly fell in love with this product. I'll compare it to my cheaper FoodSaver vacuum sealer.The top latch that locks the sealer in place is super easy to use in comparison. It takes way less pressure to lock in place.The seal is much thicker, and it's a double seal. I always sealed my bags twice with the FoodSaver so this saves an extra step and it's a far superior seal.The bag roll storage compartment is great and the bag cutter works flawlessly. I saw complaints about the cutter not working at all and I'm not experiencing this. It's a clean, smooth cut. No more scissors!The vacuum stays on even after the seal button lights up. So you're sure not to get any extra air in the bag as it seals.Actual sealing takes longer than the FoodSaver, but that's fine. It's a great seal.My FoodSaver sealer died after moderate use.Overall I'm very happy with this. As with most things Anova it appears to be high quality and has a nice amount of weight with a somewhat compact size. Mine didn't come with the hose to use on Mason jars and such but I probably wouldn't use that anyway. It would have been nice to include it. Overall for my needs this machine's perfect.

Sealer has stopped sealing properly. It vacuums, but never stops and seals. Have to hit the seal button manually, which then allows some air to re-enter the bag before it seals it. Also have to hit the seal button two or more times to get a seal. Failure to do so results in failed seals in the freezer with air in the bags and freezer burned meats. It only worked for about 6months before it started doing this. We buy bulk at sams and package it for servings of three. Guess I should have gotten one that is more commercial style. We only use it once a month when we go to Sam’s club. Don’t waste your money. Get a better one if you are going to use it very much. It also is a little lacking in the amount of vacuum it pulls.

The sealer is easy to use, but I have found one issue. I sealed a bunch of bags of precious coffee beans. This machine even sucked the air out of the factor-sealed bags. The bags were hard as bricks when it's done, and have stayed that way for the last week.I had no sealing failures until I got near the end of the roll. I found it very difficult to get the edge of the bag to lay completely flat over the vacuum tray because the bags want to curl too much. My solution is to have at least 2 inches of bag sticking out, and to use the pulse vacuum to manually get the process started. This way, you can quickly detect a wrinkle that is causing a leak and stop the process to fix it. Saves a lot of bags. Once partially evacuated manually, I push the" vacuum and seal" button to let the machine finish the process normally. Small things, like burger patties, do not seem to be any problem.Just to be sure, I tried Wevac and FoodSaver bags and had similar issues sealing the big bean bags. I'd give Anova a slight edge in ease of use over the bargain and $$ brands.

This is a review of two machines, so it isn't just a 'lemon'. It does a beautiful job...until a few days later the vacuum has failed and the tightly sealed bag is puffed out with air. The first machine failed after it was too late to return to Amazon, so I called Anova and their response was wonderful. They have a two-year warranty, they made it simple to return the defective machine and sent me a new one. And the same thing happened! I will contact them again, probably get another one, but I am not optimistic. I am a very experienced user. Have had several Foodsaver machines over the years, and thought I would try this new, highly reviewed brand. Very disappointedAbove is my first review. Since then the replacement machine has worked flawlessly.. Seals quickly, vacuums beautifully, the vacuum lasts. I have a hypothesis that when the replacement machine vacuum failed it was because it was still cold from the sub-zero temperatures and I tried to use it immediately.Anyway the only reason I don't give it a five-star rating is that the first machine failed. But it was replaced without question and without any charge to me. And their customer service is amazing. Highly recommended!

I love this vacuum sealer! I had a Foodsaver brand for many years and when it finally gave out, I purchased a replacement. Clearly, in the interim, the quality declined. The second one only lasted 2 years, so I decided to switch brands, and this one is a winner! It makes a double seal, so there's no more problem with bags opening in the freezer and letting freezer burn in. And the bags I had from my FoodSaver work with this model. Freezing foods and using my sous vide is a breeze with this item.
