If using thin fabric, see my review for instructions! *by J***G on Reviewed in the United States on September 22, 2020* These work great if you use them right. This is a quick how-to for using with t-shirt and/or fleece material. I had a t-shirt quilt made that I wanted to hang on a wall. The cutting tool would not cut through the material. The trick is to use the cutting tool and just make an indentation where you want the grommet. They use small sharp scissors (like ones used to cut bandages or thread), poke a hole in the middle, then make four small cuts INSIDE the circle - this will give fabric for the grommet to grip to. The larger half of the grommet should go on the side of the fabric that will be facing out as this one gives a cleaner look. Poke that one through the hole, carefully stretching (but not ripping) the fabric around the grommet. Place the smaller one on the opposite side, then place the large grommet on the small metal pieces. Stick the anvil (or whatever it’s called) through the hole, give it five or six whacks with a hammer, and VOILA! Pics show each step of the process I did. Turned out awesome! ### ⭐ RUST bigly after just one month - avoid *by J***S on Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2020* The media could not be loaded.  RUST RUST RUST - Dang, I am really quite angry at this point. You can NOT use these outdoors. Or probably in a bathroom or kitchen application either.I was making a three-panel awning, and I was a lot more concerned about the fabric holding up so I found sunbrella curtains on close out. It never even occurred to me to worry about grommets, I figured they were all made out of nickel plated brass or whatever. I did a lot of reading of reviews on Amazon, and these ones seem perfectly fine. Sure, the hole punch doesn’t work at all, but hey, I’ll use scissors. I was almost done with the first panel when I pulled one of the grommets out of the case and it was already rusty. ALARM BELLS start ringing in my head, like “oh crap, these things rust?!”So I went back and searched the Amazon reviews for these for the word rust, and there’s a bunch that mention that these things rest. I’m like oh no.Thank goodness that happened on the first panel. I am now a grommet expert, and can tell you you really need to find more expensive brass or nickel plated brass grommets. Stimpson is great. They’re going to cost you more. You’ll need a separate tool. You won’t need the half inch size (#4), because even though these ones are also half-inch, the real half-inch ones are way bigger, way beefier, and you’ll need a sledge hammer.Stimpson sells stainless, which I tried at first (to avoid rust), but they were so tough to set that even a sledge hammer won’t set the stainless #4’s (using a cheap-ish tool I got on amazon made by Osborne, I think the name was). I ended up with nickel plated brass #4’s for my other two panels of the awning, they are big and beautiful and holding up great. Stimpson also has amazing customer service and will answer all your questions.This cheap Amazon set is terrible. Plain steel (not stainless), equivalent in strength to much smaller real grommets. One was rusty while still in the box, and now from pics you can see how rusty they are after only one month outside, so unless you’re making a one time use project that you’ll be throwing away, pay a little more money to get brass and the corresponding tool. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Is not missing pieces! Just needs instructions *by D***K on Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2019* I was VERY confused at first so I went to check YouTube for help. Ended up thinking this kit was missing the bottom part of the grommet but I was wrong.I came back to read the reviews and another reviewer explains exactly how these work. Basically, you insert the grommet into the precut hole and the part that looks like a washer goes on the other side. You hammer them together until the back starts rolling in to secure the grommet.They worked like a charm for me but be ready to hammer the air out of these — especially if working with vinyl and a small hammer like I did.I have some over-the-door shoe storage and I grew tired of having to dust all the shoes. So I thought a plastic cover would be nice. See pics for result.Even though these worked really well, I have 3 stars because the kit has no instructions. Unless you’re a pro at this, chances are you will not know what to do with these and spend 15-20 min trying to figure it out — just like I and others did.
