Better than my 80's original Cuisiniart 14 cup
I loved my powerful Cuisinart bought in the 80's. Yes it was old, but I never had trouble with the motor, and it was heavy and solid. It had been made in Japan! (I also drive an old Prius,) and didn't want to let it go until it completely died!Through the years the plastic tops started cracking and it was expensive to replace. I finally bit the bullet and realized I had to get a new one. After a poor choice that was lightweight, noisy and wouldn't turn off (I returned it) and decided to get this model. I LOVE IT. It's better than the original, with a small bowl that works great without needing to clean the entire big. It's quiet, too! And even the switches to turn it on are easier to clean that the other models.I realized that I didn't need the 14 cups, and went down to the 12 cup = it's perfect in every way. AND it cost less that replacing the entire plastic top of my old unit.I realized that despite being a committed environmentalist, (reduce, reuse, recycle) that sometimes, it's really necessary to replace old things-If you NEED a new food processor- this is the one to get!

Powerful and quiet
The motor in this is DC which makes it very durable and so much more quiet that any prior food processor I've owned, including other Cuisinart ones. One thing I'll do is take a pound of ground beef that I cooked as a block (from frozen) in my pressure cooker and I'll throw it in here to make uniform ground beef. I'll pulse it for about 10 seconds and it's done. FYI, I then season the meat however I need, typically with taco seasonings back in the cooker. I'll usually meal prep and make 3 or 4 pounds at a time and it has no issues chopping up that much in back to back batches.

Love everything but the snap on lid
What is so hard about turning a lid to lock it? The snap on lid takes a bit of physical effort to get it to "snap on" and it shouldn't. Everything else about this machine is pretty easy to do, but this feature is just a bit awkward to deal with.

Fine grating is not an option
I bought this to replace a classic, 50 year old Robot Coupe for which replacement parts were no longer available. It has a grating disk with 2 sizes of holes, but the smallest does not grate hard cheese like Parmedan or Pecorino Romano finely, so it is unsatisfactory for pasta or salads. Otherwise the motor is very powerful, and chopping onions, carrots, it is great. But it is a bit of a pain to clean, as others have remarked.

One heck of an upgrade
Why did I wait so long to get a new food processor... well because I was raised by depression era parents on a farm. I could write a flippin book on how to stretch a buck.I had our 1982 wedding present food processor safety switch break last week. I could have bypassed it and continued to use it, but reasoning got the better of me and I researched for a replacement.I ended up with this for a few reasons and each has proven itself in just a week. The 1000 watt motor was first, so many are smaller, few are larger, and I just shredded 2 lbs of hard cheese for a casserole and it just blew through it.. Having the large feed tube was a great bonus being able to feed large blocks of cheese vs the old.The ability to keep the blades locked in when dumping or pouring the contents was #2 what a luxury.Having the smaller upper bowl is #3. I no longer need my mini processor for the smaller tasks the receipt called for...Im a fan, I expect to use it often now knowing the ease of use and cleaning is so much better than what we had.

difficult to clean, expensive replacement parts
This Cuisinart food processor is undoubtedly one of the most powerful on the market, making easy work of heavy duty kitchen tasks that have caused lesser motors to overheat. Unfortunately, the plastic parts will not last forever, and replacement parts cost almost as much as the food processor itself -- $150 for just the plastic bowl! The food processor is also needlessly difficult to clean. You must remove the o-ring from the lid to clean it separately. The food processor won't work if you don't insert the larger food-pusher into the lid (presumably a safety features), but there are so many nooks and crannies on the food pusher it is difficult to get it clean even in the dishwasher.
