A good technical understanding
I own 6-7 books covering the SLT form. I own no other book that gives a clearer understanding of the forms.Supplementing this with Sifu Jason's online resources, it has improved my Wing Chun immensely. Goofy jokes and all.Highly recommended

Best Siu Nim Tau book on Amazon
I've read numerous books on Siu Nim Tau, this is the best book by far. Sifu Jason obviously loves what he does and as a result all his content is "top shelf". I have this book and recently purchased his Chum Kiu Instructional Video Bundle. I consider both training resources a continual "go to" reference. Thanks Sifu Jason đ.

Trying not to be too critical
I have just received my copy of Wing Chunâs Foundation Siu Lim Tao. Before I say anything else though I want to say that I have respect for Mr. Korol. He does know what heâs talking about but my experience at this point is that he doesnât have a good support system for his online material & is not much of a technical writer.Although there are plenty of pics of the form, there arenât really any indepth pics of the various techniques in the book. This is supposed to be a technical manual & although certain technicalities are WRITTEN about there are no pictures describing these technicalities. An example is the âelbow lineâ which he repeatedly refers to as âbroadstreetâ in the book. This type of informal description may be fine if you are actually taking his class in person, but Iâm trying to learn 419 miles away from him with friends & family. What is needed is a manual with technical drawings or pictures with arrows & a full description of exactly what the elbow line is. You will not find that in this book. In fact there are no line drawings or arrows indicating vectors of force for ANY of the techniques.I said that there arecertain technicalities written about & this is true. Even these don't have good descriptions. In fact, barely any at all. He says in his YouTube videos that people obsess over the technicalities & I tend to agree. That does not however mean that the technicalities do not need to be learned. Wing Chun's deflections come from angles & shapes, not hard blocks. One has to know these particulars in order to be effective in wing chun. Sadly, you will find no such information in this book. In my opinion, James Lee's book on wing chun, which is far older, would be a good adjunct to this book. And if it wasn't for Mr. korol's teaching about power through moving from the elbow & the emphasis on footwork, James Lee's work would be superior & possibly is.Another downside of this book is Mr. Korolâs sense of humor which is spattered about the entire book liberally. Again, this is supposed to be a technical manual on the SLT. Perhaps it wonât bother others but for me, I canât take the material serious when Iâm dealing with 3 or 4 quips on each page. 4 or 5 scattered about the book would be no big deal but itâs like a bad comedy club routine that doesnât stop. There is also the problem of HOW he writes. There are a plethora of anecdotes that I do not feel add to the text whatsoever & it seems that he writes sometimes just to sound intelligent.I'm not making any judgements on his intelligence by the way. He seems like a reasonably intelligent guy & has obviously read some books.Even with all of these short comings, I do think that for $15.00 (the price I paid) itâs worth it though because just a few of the technicalities that you can catch from the book are more than worth it. In my honest opinion, the book needs to be revised heavily with many of the anecdotes removed, all of the quips, and more technical pictures with descriptions need to be given. I think if this happens it could be an outstanding technical manual which is what itâs supposed to be.

Not what I expected.
If your are searching for an explanation of each move in SLT, don't waste your time with this book. It's more a philosphical reflexion than an in depth instruction (distinction about real street attacks vs combat sports among other things).Put your bucks on Wayne Belonoha - The Wing Chun compendium vol.1 and 2 instead. Some of Mr Korol videos on youtube are interesting however.

Great book.
This is an excellent book on Wing Chun. Iâve read a fair few and this is the best by far, and Iâd recommend it for all practitioners of the art. If you want to become an efficient, effective fighter/self-defender, and not just a Classical, traditionalist robot, look no further.I always understood Wing Chun to be like the combat-stripped version of Kung Fu â a means to become fight effective, as quickly as possible. With the info in this book, this becomes eminently more possible since I learnt more about the Wing Chun Iâve practised for many years than I did in those many years of classes. Specifically and fundamentally, this book will truly enrich your practice of Wing Chun if you have never been taught the âwhyâ of the art â why the form is done the way it is, and gets you thinking like crazy whilst practicing, instead of just going through the motions, so to speak. It makes practice relevant and alive. Truly there is a whole library of information contained within this first form as I now know thanks to Mr. Korolâs teaching.Better still, he entertains throughout, whilst explaining larger issues that canât be separated from learning to fight. For example, why we should learn to do so; the moral implications behind doing so, and the true value of seeking to become a warrior in the truest, usually highly misunderstood way. A true warrior is someone worth emulating and aspiring to â a worthy role model unlike many the modern world holds up to us. And the chapter herein with commentaries on some fine examples of warriors portrayed in movies should be required reading for us all. Finally, his views and commentaries on the downfalls of our modern society in the West are also spot on in my view, as well as amusing, and I laughed out loud often, since heâs clearly someone that observes and thinks about things deeply which I feel too few of us now do in modern society. (Perhaps too critical in some peopleâs views, but then truth hurts as they say.) And finally, someone that shares the view that clearly the âWorld War Zâ Zombies are clearly more dangerous (and so scary since theyâre threatening) than those in âThe Walking Dead.âA very entertaining and worthwhile read all-around.

More than just Sui Lim Toa instruction
This book covers Sui Lim Toa in detail, as one would expect, but it covers so much more. There is a lot regarding the nature and philosophy relating to the martial artist, and how society affects this, all of which I tend to agree with.Initially I bought this book as a supplement to other, heavier and more comprehensive Wing Chun books, but I was surprised how much I enjoyed it, even the humour thrown in.Itâs a book I'll return to on a regular basis.
