We bought this to go under our wedding cake stairs in our above ground pool. We were concerned that some rough edges on our steps might rub against the liner and cause a leak. The thickness of the mat is very good for the price and the ribbed texture really helps it to stay in place. We've had it in the pool now for a whole season (3.5 months) and it's not moved or been a problem! The only thing that might be an annoyance is that when algae does collect on the mat, it's difficult to get it off because the vacuum sucks up the mat aggressively and makes it impossible to vacuum it up. So you would have to hand scrub the edges of the mat if you notice any staining from algae or other debris. But this is little inconvenience for the benefits the mat provides. UPDATE 8/9/15: We are now on the 3rd pool season with this mat, and it's still going strong. We clean it really well at the end of the season before putting it in storage. We roll it, and don't fold it. And it's as good as new when we're ready to put it back in the next season. Given the sort of hefty price on this, I am pleased that it's held up as well as it has. I can honestly recommend this to those looking for longevity and functionality. With proper care, it will last years.
