Sweet Tone On The Cheap
The Donner Multi-Pad 100 is a sweet little guitar and bass multi-fx unit with amp and cab sims, for $50.I was pleasantly surprised with this unit. It'll make a great little desktop guitar rig for me to use in the office or around the house.Although you could use this to play live shows, the build is not really "stage ready". You could make it work if you were in a pinch, but you'd have to be careful not to step on it.I did run through my pedal board into this, so I can vouch that it will take pedals alright. (I use the Donner Ultimate Compressor first in my chain, and it's an ALWAYS ON effect for me, in case you're looking for an inexpensive, decent compressor)...The Amp/Cab sims were actually not bad, and the effects were somewhat limited, but usable...I'm not comparing this to a 700 dollar unit obviously - but this is a bargain at $50 and I thoroughly enjoyed playing through it.The AMP/Cabs are Fender Tweed (1x12), Vox AC30 (2x12), Marshall JCM800 (2x12), Orange AD30 (4x12), Peavey 5150 (4x12), ENGL Savage 120 (4x12), and the Ampeg SVT bass amp (4x10) *I have not tried running bass through this yet*I actually liked all of the Amp/Cabs. The Fender and Vox are usually my style, but I found the Marshall JCM800 to be really cool. I'm not really into high-gain amps anymore, but I did have fun chunkin' away on the Peavey 5150 and the ENGL Savage 120.There is a Gain, Tone, and Volume knob. The effects are Reverb (Room / Hall / Plate), Modulation (Chorus / Flanger / Tremolo), and Delay (Pure / Warm / Tape).Dialing in either of the 3 types of effects is a bit tricky... Basically you have one knob for each of the 3 types (Reverb / Modulation / Delay) - and for each knob, it controls the 3 different variations of the effect type. For example, the reverb knob all the way to the left (7 o'clock) is no reverb, and as you turn the knob clockwise, it turns on the "Room" reverb, and as you rotate through to about 10 o'clock, it lengthens the decay AND increases the mix... then from 11 o'clock to 1 is the Hall, and the remaining turn is for the plate. Same concept for the Modulation and Delay. These are not outstanding effects, but they work ok if you take the time to carefully dial them in. I found myself using a slight bit of chorus, and a slap-back style on the "pure" delay.Oh, and it has a 40 pattern drum machine and metronome - these were not very good, but could be good to practice with if you needed to work on some rhythm. Also does have a built in tuner, which I was surprised it was fairly easy to use, even tuned down to e-flat...What I like about this is that it's really perfect for someone just starting out on guitar (or bass), and wants to have some effects and amp/cab sims without spending hundreds of dollars on pedals ... AND for you parents out there, they can just plug in their headphones and jam silently! They can also just plug the output into their guitar or bass amp and play loud too :)For the advanced player, this will be good to plug in and go when inspiration hits, without setting up an entire rig.... And to practice in headphones without bothering the family!I'm giving this 5 stars because it's great for beginners and good enough for accomplished musicians, at a very affordable price!

Not (really) a Toy.
I wanted to use this product as a drum machine, running into my amplifier through the aux input channel. That works fine actually, and the drums even sound decent. I purchased two other products, a Beat Buddy Mini and a drum machine pedal from someone and did not like their drum sounds as much as the Donner. You can run a guitar into it, then to an amp input, but I prefer my amp's modeling so I don't use the Donner that way after trying it the first time. I will sometimes grab some headphones, the Donner, a guitar and cable and go sit in the living room watching TV and playing using the modeled amplifiers and the drum function pretty happily. The higher gain/distortion models sound the best, and the less gain/distortion models the least-best. Not really worst, just least-best... or perhaps least-good.In addition, the Donner allows me to connect my guitar and get a modeled amp sound without... an amp. The modeling is not great, and the volume of the two 'clean' modeled amps is too low, and the Effects and Delay don't have a lot of flexibility, but they do give you roughly the effect you are looking for.It did eat a 9V battery pretty quickly, so I use it almost exclusively with the included wall-wort instead of on-battery. The product does feel and look pretty cheap, but so far, it's held up.Yeah, I'd buy it again if I didn't find something else seemingly meeting my needs as an alternative.

Versatile, amazing price, great multi effects pedal
This is a great little extremely versatile multi-effects pedal, particularly at it's price point.First, I will state the obvious: each effect on this pedal is not quite as good as an individual pedal for each effect would be. That should be common knowledge for any multi effects pedal as a general rule, particularly any well priced one. The fine tuning you can achieve with each pedal, not to mention the ability to turn it on and off on the fly in the middle of songs is something you only achieve with individual pedals (or a multi effects pedal with such a high price point and so many knobs that you may as well have gotten your individual favorites in the first place). Therefore,The best application for this pedal is for practice, and getting exposed to a lot of different quality effects for a very low price. This can greatly stimulate your mind and creative juices.THAT BEING SAID...this pedal could still be used for small time gigs if you really wanted to, because it has presets in the Patch settings that you can fine tune and save for particular sounds you don't want to hunt for between songs. You could even conceivably practice switching patches in the middle of songs if you're desperate. The drum machine is pretty standard. Pretty mechanical sounding, but most drum machines sound that way to me. I'm not a huge fan of drum machines in general, so take that with a grain of salt. No 3/4 beats on this one, which I mentioned to Donner to pass on to their development team (they really like that feedback, and are great to work with. They usually follow up on purchases, and have a clear vision for excellent customer service). The design shocked me at first, and my wife and I both thought it looked like an old school controller. Turns out that's the retro look they were going for. Cute idea, even if it's not my personal taste. It feels very light, as it is a plastic exterior, but a metal one might feel far too bulky, particularly as it has a clip on the back you could clip into your belt or pocket (once again, conceivably for gigging and faster changes as much as possible). This pedal has been a blast to play so far. Very much worth the money for the quality effects you can pipe through it!
