The "Burp" Evolution
The Burp Lids Vacuum Extraction System is the most significant innovation for Mason jar enthusiasts I’ve tested in 2026. It replaces the "open-and-hope" method with patented vacuum technology that ensures your harvest stays fresh, potent, and mold-free. Here is the expert breakdown. The Engineering: Patented Oxygen Extraction The genius of the Burp Lids system is the One-Way Valve integrated into a high-quality, wide-mouth lid. The Pump: Unlike traditional fermenting lids that rely on passive pressure, this kit includes a dedicated Extraction Pump. By manually pumping the air out, you create a vacuum seal that actively pulls oxygen away from your contents. In my testing, this significantly reduced the risk of oxidation and "browning" in cured goods. The Seal: The gaskets are medical-grade silicone, providing an airtight fit that holds a vacuum for weeks. This is vital for long-term "curing" where consistency is the key to a premium final product. Performance: Curing vs. Fermenting For Curing: This is a "set-it-and-forget-it" dream. Instead of opening 20 jars every morning, you simply use the pump to refresh the vacuum every few days. It preserves terpene profiles and essential oils by preventing the "gas exchange" that happens with manual burping. For Fermenting: It works perfectly as an airlock. As CO2 builds up during fermentation (like making sauerkraut or pickles), the valve allows the gas to escape without letting oxygen in, virtually eliminating the chance of "Kahm yeast" or surface mold. PROS Drastically Reduces Labor: If you are processing a large harvest, this system saves you hours of manual jar-opening over a month-long cure. Increased Potency & Flavor: By maintaining a stable environment and minimizing oxygen contact, your herbs and fermented foods retain their vibrant colors and complex aromas much better than with standard lids. Universal Wide-Mouth Fit: These fit any standard wide-mouth Mason jar (Ball, Kerr, etc.), allowing you to turn your existing glassware into professional-grade curing chambers. Mold Prevention: The vacuum environment is hostile to aerobic mold and bacteria, providing an extra layer of insurance for your hard work. BPA-Free & Food Safe: The construction is rugged, easy to clean, and designed for years of repeated use. CONS Wide Mouth Only: These will not work on "Regular Mouth" jars. You’ll need to ensure your inventory of glassware matches the lids. The "Pump" Factor: The system relies on the hand pump. If you lose the pump, you lose the primary "vacuum" benefit of the kit (though the lids still act as excellent airlocks). Manual Effort: It is a manual pump, not electric. If you have 50+ jars, your forearms will get a bit of a workout! Overall Input The Burp Lids System is a masterclass in functional utility. It takes the guesswork out of one of the most delicate stages of food and herb preservation. It’s an investment that pays for itself by preventing crop loss and ensuring a higher-quality end product. For the hobbyist gardener or the fermentation enthusiast, this is an "S-Tier" tool. Reviewer Pro-Tip: Don't over-vacuum! Give the pump 3–4 solid pulls until you feel significant resistance. Over-vacuuming can sometimes pull moisture out of your curing herbs, making them too dry. Also, store your jars in a cool, dark place—the vacuum protects against oxygen, but the glass still lets in light, which can degrade your contents over time! Who is this for? Herbalists, home gardeners, "Preppers" interested in long-term food storage, and DIY fermenters who want professional, mold-free results every time.

Durable fits perfectly on 64oz mason jars
Super product! Saves time and super effective! Beats a regular mason jar lid any day! Only thing is check the gasket before use some of them need to be placed in the lid straight before using but after that no problems

Ingenuity
That machine loses power and not enough seals for the amount of jars. The pump did better but sucked

Pretty good!
Works pretty good! Fits wide mouth jars only. Easy to use, just twist on the lid. Attach the pump and then pump until tight. Then push the little nozzle to the side. You’ll hear the air coming out. Easy to clean and looks pretty sweet on the jars.

Manual pump defective
I purchased this and returned because manual pump broke , the pump stopped working. I opened it to reveal that o ring inside pump that provides suction came off and bunched up in pump. So i returned product, got a replacement and it worked perfectly for one week then did the same thing. I followed the instructions to a tee , and didn’t over pump either , yet pump still failed. Good concept but didn’t work. Burp inc you are welcome to contact me and make right . Updated: since I last submitted, spoke with burp lids. They made things right and sent me an updated pump, works great as it should. Five stars !!!

Works off and on, but this method tends to work
Either won't seal or don't keep a seal, is what I've faced with these. These lids can be tricky to get on which can prevent a seal. The rubber burp which helps keep the vacuum tend to be too small or off centered. This allows for leakage. The others took a lot of tries and eventually sealed after some toggling and taking the lid on and off. Eventually all lids failed, but after several attempts I got a few to work properly. In the end, only 2 of mine never held a good seal Update: For best results with these lids. Make sure no debris are in the following places: rim of jar or outter sides of jar, lid's rim seal and lid's inner sides. Put the lid on top of your jar. Rotate counterclockwise until lid falls in place. Turn clockwise until tight and snug Make sure burp is centered and not cramp on any side. Do this before and after you use the pump to extract the air from within the jar.

Doesn’t work, waste of money
The way these “work” is that you are pumping air into a closed system, which increases the air pressure inside the jar, then you open the system to release the air pressure. You aren’t exchanging air, you are diluting old air with fresh air. That is if they even work, and mine did not. There is a hole in the center of the lid with a rubber piece over it. You put the pump on this piece to pump air into the jar. The problem is that the rubber piece doesn’t actually form a seal, so it isn’t a closed system. You’ll pump all day and never exchange any air. The pump does not pull air out of the jar. Also, since it doesn’t actually form a seal, the aroma seeps out of the jar. And the product in the jar dries up. Completely defeating the purpose of using the jars. Waste of money, does not work

Curing With Ease!
Tired of opening jars constantly to let you harvest breathe? I know it gets annoying to me! These definitely make the curing process go a lot smoother. Easy push of a button and then pump it up. I definitely wanna upgrade at some point to the automated style. I also have the brain and lid to be able to cure in a bucket. I can’t wait to see how that works as well! Great product, great customer service, totally recommend!

Two lids don’t vacuum seal. One lid was missing a valve. Contacted the seller, who did not message back.

I really like this product. It's a bit pricey but once I saw how well it worked and how easy it makes my lacto fermenting I'm a believer. I ordered 16 of them total for wide mouth mason jars to do my preserves for the winter from my garden. LOVE them!

The lids are great and the vacuum seals work as asvertised...but the pump does not. It stopped working after 2 days of use and does no longer suck the air out. No way to spot the error and repair as the pump can't be disassembled. A replacement pump (only the old version availabe) costs a whooping 22 Euros here in Germany... That's crazy for such a cheap piece of plastic. Already spent close to 100 Euros on the 12 lid set. In this price range one would expect quality on all parts... If I cant find a cheap replacement for the pump, I got to write the lids off as a failed investment as their main feature is useless without it...

Product is useless for myself as it is too small to fit over the mouth of my mason jar
