Bergan Pet Travel Barrier
I purchased this to keep my nosy German Shepard in the back seat. She likes to lurk like some kind of hairy vulture on the console between the two front seats of my Subaru Forester. The Back Seat Barrier pretty much does the trick. I found it a tiny bit challenging to install -because of the underside of my car seats - but it looks taut, tidy and when she lies down she can see through it which is good. However, if I leave the car, she steps over it onto the console. She's just a big girl and is able to do so. Most importantly, while traveling, she knows not to do that but can still see me easily. Overall a good purchase. Works for us and is not as overwhelming as the large barriers. I'm glad I got it.

Very effective for large, reasonably well-behaved dogs (& now, also my new puppy)
My collie is very good in the car, but just cannot resist creeping forward to lay her muzzle on my shoulder, or try to balance her paws on the gearshift so she can look companionably down the road with me. This works very well to keep her back just enough for safety, while still allowing her to rest her muzzle on my shoulder, or on the barrier itself.I really love that it has the sturdy mesh panels. She can see through them while laying down in the back, so she's still hanging out with her pack, & it doesn't block the view of any passengers at all. If your dog is a determined jumper, gets anxious in the car, or is just extremely rowdy, then you're going to need the floor to ceiling metal bar barrier. If your beastie just likes to crowd too far into the front, this is a perfect solution.Update: I came back to bump it up from 4 to 5 stars, as, more than 4 years later, it is still installed in my car, completely solid and stable, showing very little wear. My lovely collie passed away last year, but the barrier is proving just as effective for my much smaller, and bouncier, Shetland Sheepdog puppy.

My 6-month old labrador retriever ripped a hole right through the mesh part and stuck his whole head through - in the first ten minutes we had it. Still continue to use it, because it's deterring him from getting into the front seat, but I don't know how long that will last. I'll check back and update!

It is sturdy and well-made and has a circular hook that fastens ...
I have an eight month old White German Shepherd who already weighs 65 pounds. She has tried to climb over the console from the back seat to get to me. I bought this to train her to stay in the back of my Lexus. It is sturdy and well-made and has a circular hook that fastens to a metal ring at all four corners and the upper straps have a buckle adjustment for the length of the straps. The lower ones go down to the floor behind the seat and wrap under the metal rail the seat slides on. I wrapped the lower one twice around the rail to get the strap taut at the bottom so her harness and leash wouldn't have a chance of getting caught on the hook of the attachment. She can rest her head on the top of this and it stays put. The mesh window is great because she can see people in the front seat fine and we can keep an eye on her. She has learned from this visible barrier that she is to stay in the back seat and I am thrilled with my purchase. Thanks so very much.

Exactly what we needed
Functioned perfectly to keep our handsome 95 lb German Shepherd in the back seat. We had just bought a new full size Ram truck, and as much as we love our dog, we didn't want to get scratches all over it. Not sure if it would really keep him in back if he really wanted to come into the front, btw. No problem with the fit at all. The netting along the bottom allows the backseat a/c air to flow, which is a good design.Update: I still really like the product, however, I discovered that our dog can simple step over the barrier IF HE REALLY WANTS TO. Conclusion: he was only being polite in not coming into the front seats previously; he is smart enough to recognize that we wanted him to sit on his own air-conditioned seat in the back on his own blanket. Good luck all, with your own dog!

Works for us!
I purchased this, and then I read the reviews so I was a bit worried this wouldn't work. Just to clear up some of the poor reviews:- There ARE printed instructions included with the divider. I don't know if the folks complaining about "no instructions" ever contacted the manufacturer to get some.- This is an inexpensive seat divider. It wasn't as "cheap" as I thought it would be based on reviews.- If you have a heavy chewer, larger, athletic, or energetic dog, I would advise a kennel in your vehicle (I train dogs). This won't work.We bought this divider for when we get out of our truck to pump fuel, etc. to keep our 48 lbs dog in the back seat versus her toenails up on our console. It works for that. Using it as a tried-and-true barrier wouldn't work. I would suggest a kennel or bar barrier for that.We like the product as it works as intended.

There are better alternatives than this type of product - please read.
Our little terrors jumped over this like it wasn't there. We learned in hind sight that the best solution is a simple strap the extends from your dogs "Harness" to the seat belt anchor. You simply make the strap the appropriate length to let them sit or lay without being so long that they can jump on the back of your seat. Use your imagination for the hook or clip that works best. If you have an existing harness all you need is the strap. If you don't have a harness you can purchase a combination unit with the strap and harness on the internet or at a pet supply store. It didn't take our dogs more than one trip out to get them used to it. Now they lay down on the back seat just as they would in the house. It is also a lot safer for your dogs to have them strapped in.

Good product however...
The product seems well made. But it has to be for small dogs only. It barely covers any space between my back and front seats.

What we were looking for
Have not used this item yet but seem to be what we were looking for.

WELL MADE but my westie's jumped right over it
The product itself is well made, but it doesn't work for me. My dogs jumped right over it just standing on the back seat(and they are small dogs, Westies)

It’s great.
This is the only thing so far that truly keeps my dogs in the back of my car. It’s great.

Garbage
This thing was an absolute waste of money...it was not strong enough to keep my dog in the back seat and is just a poor design/idea in the first place.

It works ok. In my truck it doesn’t go up as high as the picture. Clearly a “made in China “ quality but for $16 it is what it is.
