Once I learned that the fethead blocks 48v as well, I switched from the phantom blocker to the fethead for my ribbon mics. **Q: Does this protect from power suddenly being engaged? mfg says "connect in certain order" to "prevent transfer of an initial ac voltage burst" so....??** A: This device is intended to block phantom power from microphones which do not require it, or that can be damaged by it, as in ribbon mics. It is not intended to suppress the initial power up spikes which occur when powering up consoles, outboard gear, etc. it is common practice to power up consoles, then outboard gear first, then amplifiers (including self-powered speakers) and so forth downstream equipment last. Reverse the order when shutting down equipment. Amps first, outboard gear second, console last. **Q: What is this for?** A: The device is used to block phantom power from an audio device such as a mixer or audio-to-usb converter so it does not reach an audio source device’s input that is not designed to have phantom power. Example: You want to connect an audio mixer with an active topology output to an audio to usb converter that has phantom power. The phantom power can damage the mixer.
