## Description

Product description The solution to the problem that the device cannot recognize the HDD/SSD 1. Please verify that the power supply to the hard drive enclosure is working properly and check whether the power indicator light is on. 2. Check that the data cable is securely connected and that the connector is properly inserted. 3. Verify that the drivers required for your computer or device to recognize the hard drive are correctly installed. 4. Try using a different USB or SATA port to rule out a faulty connection. 5. Please ensure that the hard drive is compatible with the enclosure and supports the current interface type. 6. Verify that the hard drive has been properly initialized or formatted and has been assigned a drive letter. 7. Avoid frequent power interruptions or hot-swapping while the hard drive is in operation to prevent data loss. 8. For external hard drive enclosures, check if a switch or mode needs to be toggled (e.g., UASP mode). 9. If the hard drive disconnects unexpectedly, try restarting the device and reconnecting the hard drive enclosure. 10. This hard drive enclosure is compatible with 3.5/2.5-inch SATA hard drives, including used or older drives. Older hard drives may have bad sectors or power supply issues, which can cause recognition failures or disconnections. The enclosure itself functions normally. If your old hard drive is not recognized, please first verify the health of the hard drive itself before considering returning or exchanging the enclosure. Review: Excellent drive case with external power - I have a few of these SATA drive cases and never found a reason to look for any other. They open easily, drives slide in-and-out without much resistance, yet hold the drive firmly in place. Having the external power supply is critical for me to be sure enough power is delivered to the drive at all times and never rely on a USB plug for clean power. Also critical for me is having one of the most important yet simple features: a power off/on switch! I hate it when a drive starts spinning or becomes energized the moment it is plugged into a USB port and that's never a problem with this case. This drive case has paid for itself tin time and convenience. Definitely something I will be buying again!
Review: Great enclosure for the price - This enclosure works perfectly and was ready to go in less than a minute. It's a tool-less design so all you really have to do is slide off the cover, pop in your drive, and close it up. My drive sat a bit loose in the enclosure, but they provide two foam pads (one thick, one thin) to make the fit more snug. I stuck the thick pad down on the lid towards the end away from the ports, and it immediately stopped any rattling and clunking when moving it around. The lid feels a bit too easy to slide off, which isn't terribly confidence inspiring. However it still seems to hold well even if the latch disengages. I wasn't able to feel much wiggle room when I pulled on the cover, you have to slide it all the way out for it to come off. For the price, I'll give it a pass on this point. In the enclosure my hard drive mounts like any other removable storage, and it fully supports SMART. The drive supports USB 3 over its USB-C port, which is more than sufficient for my mechanical drive. Using the included USB-A to USB-C cable, I hit about 150 MB/s read speeds, which is pretty close to the drive's performance over SATA. I didn't bother to test write speeds since it's an SMR drive, so it would be limited by the drive itself. I noticed read speeds dropping after a few benchmarks, though I'm not sure whether that's because of the enclosure or the drive itself. The drive will even go into standby after a period of inactivity, just like it did when I had it in my desktop. Do note that pressing the power button will cause the drive to immediately power off without confirmation. It doesn't unmount or wait until it's finished writing, it will instantly cut power to the drive. I wished it would've taken at least a long press to power off. To summarize, I'm pretty happy with this drive, and it seems to be one of the few nicer enclosures that supports USB-C.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: is there a heating problem or how is the heat dissipated?**
A: I had a heat problem, used it for 5 months. The drive had no files on it so shouldn't have run hot. I took the drive out, let it cool off, put it back in and there was no power to the enclosure. I put in two other working drives, still no power to it. I put the drive in another enclosure and it was not hot, copied 350GB of files to it and it is still not hot. Apparently the enclosure malfunctioned.

**Q: will the hard drive stop spinning when i turn the computer off? or will the hard drive continue to spin until i manually switch the enclosure "off"?**
A: The drive in the enclosure will only spin when data is being accessed. So turning the computer off definitely stops the enclosure drive from spinning. The enclosure also has a on/off power button.

**Q: Does this support uasp?**
A: The firmware and/or hardware must have been updated since these answers (dated July 2015). At this point in time (December 2021), the listing says UASP is supported.

**Q: What is the lenght of the type c cable**
A: it's about 80cm,31 inches.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Simple, Sturdy, and Perfect for Reviving Old Drives
*by E***S on October 11, 2025*

Simple, Sturdy, and Perfect for Reviving Old Drives I picked up the ORICO 3588US3 enclosure to reuse a few old 3.5" hard drives from retired PCs, and it’s been excellent so far. The tool-free design really does make installation effortless — you just slide the cover open, drop the drive in, and close it up. It connected instantly to Windows without any driver setup, and the blue LED indicator makes it easy to tell when the drive is active. Transfer speeds over USB 3.0 are right where they should be — I was seeing around 150 MB/s on a standard HDD, which is plenty for backups and file transfers. The included power adapter feels solid and delivers stable power for full-size drives, and the USB cable is a reasonable length for desktop use. The lightweight ABS shell isn’t fancy, but it’s heat-resistant and seems durable enough for sitting on a desk or shelf. There are a couple of small quirks to note: the top cover slides a bit loosely if you move it around a lot, and the included foam pad helps secure the drive better inside. Also, it lacks active cooling, so if you plan to leave it running 24/7, give it some ventilation space. Bottom line: this ORICO 3.5" SATA enclosure is a simple, inexpensive way to breathe new life into old hard drives or create a large external backup. Easy setup, dependable performance, and solid value under twenty bucks.
