Unexpected delight
Am I man enough to be able to recommend a series about a magical girl (who is really a duck) who saves people using the power of ballet?Well, yes ... yes I am.This is not your usual magical-girl-who-is-really-a-duck anime ...The plotting is ingenious, the characterisation excellent and the animation great. The plot is a lot darker than the summary suggests (well, it would pretty much have to be) and takes off in some very unexpected directions, especially in the second half. The general tone is a little like Disney's Pinocchio; this is fairy-tale land, to be sure, but the true blue Grimm's fairy-tale land, where very nasty things can happen and people may get hurt. It's all very satisfying and remarkably cliche-free. Like the best invented worlds, fantastic as it is, it's perfectly consistent in its own terms. And the music ...

A Ballet Dancing Super Hero?! COOL!
Before I start unless you have a multi region DVD player then this product isn't going to be any use to you, unless you use your computer but if you ever want to play other region DVD's on it then be careful because you only get a few chances to change the region setting then it's stuck forever.Well I must say I was dubious when I first purchased the DVD set but really I had no need to be. The quality of the DVD's themselves, including the extra features such as voice actor commentary and the small ballet for beginners sections, were very well done. The story of Princess Tutu it's self is something I have never experienced before in an anime. The name was a little off putting to me at first but when I watch the first few episodes I was hooked. The way they used stories within stories and the music from all the various ballets was very good. Like with most anime everything is pretty over the top and realism is definitely something you won't find within this box set. But if you are up for some fantastical ideas, effects and characters then I would definitely recommend Princess Tutu to you. I love the way that it promotes ballet as being for everyone... even the occasional animal. For example the main character Duck being in reality and actual duck as well as the mystical Princess Tutu is funny, mildly relatable and overall enjoyable to watch. The confrontational scenes look superb all fought out with ballet and very little physical violence. So if it's a full on action anime you are looking for I'd move on to Naruto or something.Leaps and bounds above other animated ballet shows such as Angelina Ballerina which is just a slap in the face after this. Although that is a kids show and this series is at time quite dark and foreboding as well as a little complex for young children. Still Princess Tutu is fun and light hearted as well as being tragic and tense a must for any growing anime collection!

Pretty dancing and pretty boys
Princess Tutu is full of ballet, and that's why I orderer the serie. It gives something for everyone, but if you're full of pretty boys and tsundere girls with their moe kind of acting, this is not for you.The story itself is great and idea of prince's lost soul's pieces around the city just beautiful. Every piece has it's own sad story, and the more prince gain his soul back the more it hurts. Can Tutu save him from eternal pain?Every episode is one whole ballet.
