Great Book-More than just Pictures
This is one of those books that helps show all the effort that let up to putting men on the moon. I had the opportunity to work at one of the test facilities mentioned in the book. It was a great way to relive history in the place history was made. This book allows the reader to do that through the pictures and text.

A stunning visual preservation of our greatest accomplishment.
I had this book on my radar since 2014 when i noticed it was getting funding on kickstarter. I loved the idea and eagerly awaited it's release. I'm happy to say the finished product exceeded my admittedly high expectations. The book stands as a visual testament to the massive effort put forth to send human beings into space, and how the sands of time are slowly wearing away these monuments to our greatest accomplishments. The pictures mr miller took manage to capture the true significance these sites and structures hold in the grand scale of human history. Many photos evoke feelings similar to looking at the worlds great cathedrals or iconic landmarks, and as a result alllow the viewer to feel the almost religious fervor with which men worked with to bring us into space. There is a also a certain sadness inherent in seeing these places slowly fading in both outward appearance and cultural consciousness. It's this last point that makes Abandoned In Place such an important work. Mr.Miller has ensured that this part of our history has been visually preserved in a way that will remind us of the beauty and progress human beings are capable of when we work collectively toward something greater than ourselves. As these sites slowly decay and the physical evidence of our first forays into space are lost, the images in Abandoned In Place will remind us of the sacrifice, courage ingenuity and accomplishment of those first men who allowed us to explore the heavens.

Shows history and beauty of many long gone relics of the space age
This book has great pictures and essays from the author and others. I've been to some of the sites at Kennedy Space Center but only in 2013-14 so I'm sad I missed many of the structures pictured in the book. My only criticism that makes me give it 4 stars is that I don't like some of the page layouts. There are panoramic pictures that should be large across two pages but are instead crammed into a few inches on one page. I wish the pictures took up more space in the book.

It looks great. Unfortunately the packaging is sub-par
The print and binding is of high quality for a fair price, It looks great. Unfortunately the packaging is sub-par, The copy I received had either been dropped or hit, and the edge had a dent in it, as well as a wrinkle in the dust jacket where the dent is. This wouldn't be a problem for a normal book, but I purchased this one as a showpiece, so it is a little bit of a bummer.

Good read for space junkies.
I am an old space junkie. This is a very good book about things that took place in the early part of the program.

Interesting but unfulfilling: a missed opportunity.
You can tell a book is an art book when it has as many introductions as chapters. Abandoned in Place has a foreward, prologue, preface and an introduction. It then has six chapters with images and the seventh chapter really should be an epilogue. This is n't going to be a rigorous history in any way shape or form despite what the official reviews might say. The binding and paper used is of very high quality. The reproduction of the images is also of very high quality. The book says that it gives artistic insight while preserving an important piece of history. My problem is that in general the photography is good but not necessarily outstanding. It's often said that the biggest thing separating amateur and professional photographers today is access. And that is absolutely true. In a world where we are saturated by images every second of the day, very few of the images here stand out artistically. There are some (but relatively few) images where there is wonderful use of color and some images where abstraction of the subject makes a strong image. In the main though this is a piece about the benefits of access to sites where few can go now. If you, as a photographer, examples that show how format is less important (the world isn't always 2 x 3 or 4 x 5) then this is a great book. If you want images that say "hey look up there might be an strong image there" then this is a great book. If you want examples of how lines in structures can inform perspective then, guess what, this is a great book. What it is not is a great work of art or a great piece of historic recording. In the end this is interesting but unfulfilling. I'm glad I bought and looked at this book but I don't need to keep it on my coffee table for the world to see.

Memories!
As a retired engineer who spent 14 years at the Cape and was in the blockhouse for all 10 Gemini launches, this book brought back a lot of fond - and some not so fond - memories. It was disappointing, however, to see Complex 19 rusted away. 1961 - 1966 - "Them was the good old days!"

Not what I was expecting
Was very excited about this book because I love the history of space flight and was excited about seeing the current conditions of the facilities at the Cape. What I got in this purchase is more of an art book not a documentation of the launch facilities. The photos in the book are beautiful but not what I was looking forward to.

Romantic decay...
This is a fascinating book for those who have more than a passing interest in space exploration history. The quality of the photography is excellent and evocactive, and the images are accompanied by insightful essays. It is a large format book and the quality of the printing and paper is very good.

Hopefully useful for my Thesis, great stuff!
A presto.Amazing idea connecting humanities/Art via photographs to Space .. and making it Heritage. The concept of debries demands further studies by all the readers and citizens of the world ... for this take Clement for example or take other readings about heritage and read italian authors who at least have been pioneers for the cultural heritage protection. Still a lot must be achieved together.I thank Miller with which i had not the chance to get in touch in the last months i have been trying to contact for the first times. Hopefully i will have the chance to talk to him and listen of course. This work is amazing.I suggest to continue in Khazakstan and work on a planetary heritage/debris project together with ESA too. USA culture and NASA must open up, it s really important. We are planetary and this books explains it clearly. We are going very fast and we should have goosebumps for what is happening we don t even understand it and understand what competition and cooperation has been behind these amazing space deeds and progress we have acquired as Humanity until today in last 60 years at least. We are going so fast that we will lose the meaning of history and what we are if we do not preserve the MEANING and this book is there to talk about this througj our eyes and make our synapsis reflect ... let s work together on a project... this book of photo is a great start or a great addition to what has been done so far on this path in latest years.I can t provide pictures of the book of course. The package arrived in a week from US ... and you guys from amazom are great with any Postal service in the world. I personally think that u would be slowed down if u started to use drones. You are already an AiR force of products .. you can reach any place at anytime. I really appreciate anyway if you could be more and more concerned about pollution and allow to cluster/pooling of items into one package into one expedition and reduce anyway deliveries... we are consuming the planet and we must take care.Great job for this book, great job amazon connecting the world. Please post this review too. Do not cancel or stop publication you must allow ppl to connect or moderate asking for edits but you can t block true reviews

Good archive and reference
I had thought there would be more large photos, but there wasn't. Good archive and reference, but its not a coffee table photo book.
