Had a very overwhelming odor in our master bath. I took out a lot of drywall trying to figure out where the stink was coming from. After much damage, I finally decided it had to be in the vent pipe. Bought a fiber optic camera and was able to run it up and down the pipe - didn't see anything. Bought these strips to prove it's sewer gas because the wife became skeptical after a couple weeks of damage - perhaps there's a drip or a dead animal. The strips showed nothing and I dipped them in distilled water just like Rufus told me to. Dangled them in the air in various places... nothing. I decided to run the camera one last time and there I saw the crack in the vent pipe on the inside corner of a 90. Turned out, it was about 3 inches from one of these test strips that didn't react. The problem was, I hadn't taken out enough drywall to see it. So, the rest of these are going into the trash. It wasn't a light and barely detectable smell, it was the entire bathroom smelled like sewer and these strips did nothing.

I was told by an a/c tech that we have sulphur fumes in our water, he could smell it, which damaged our coil. It wasn't cheap. I used the strips at every point in our system, but the strips never changed color. I don't fault the strips. I'll wait and try the strips on someone else's water, who definitely have sulphur problems, when I meet them.

I looked up the word "worthless" and a picture of this product was right there next to the definition! I fell for it because of the price but, trust me, I'm not happy about losing $8.88! These DO NOTHING!! I know I have a sulfur problem so I wanted to have something to make sure that the problem was fixed. I tested before the fix and..... NOTHING!!
