## Description

Grip was buried in one of his textbooks when his roommate entered and told him that the dean of students needed to speak to him.As he strode across the University of Michigan’s campus, he couldn’t recall any recent infractions that might have triggered the summons, but he soon learned that it wasn’t a question of anything he had done. The dean informed him that his father had been murdered in a hideous fashion in St. Louis. When Grip left Ann Arbor, he wasn’t returning to seek vengeance on those who had killed his father. He was going to return and dismantle every bit of his father’s business empire and when he left the city far behind, the only place where anyone could read the name of Lawrence Preston Taylor would be on his gravestone.

Review: Gripping Old Western Tale With a Touch of Romance set in the late 1880’s. Enjoy! - This 398-page old western tale with more than a touch of romance was the best one that I have read by this author. I did find the poor editing a bit annoying, but am willing to overlook that because C. J. Petit is exceptionally good at developing both his characters and the story as a whole. “Grip Taylor” is another enthralling tale that held my interest from beginning to the satisfying ending. At 7, Grip’s multimillionaire father, sent him to a military academy. His mother died before he really got to know her and his father was a cruel criminal who loved nobody except himself. While 25-year old Grip Taylor was studying for his doctorate degree in Engineering, he learned that his father was murder in a horrifying manner. While Grip did not wish his father’s demise, he understood the motives of the killers and did not care if the perpetrators were found or not. Knowing how evil his father was, Grip’s intention was to dismantle his father’s estate and give at least half of his more than 4 million dollar inheritance to charity. He wanted to move from St. Louis, Missouri to Ogden, Utah, buy land, build a home, and risk his life to help those who had been bullied and left without hope. His mission was to remove any trace of his father’s name, Lawrence Preston Taylor, except on his tombstone. When he discovered a birth certificate of a young lady, named Julia, in his father’s secret room and safe with the name of the father missing and the mother, Charlotte Marley had been fired by Grips father while she was still pregnant with, Julia, Grip became suspicious. Grip was puzzled about why his father had this birth certificate in his safe unless he was actually the baby’s father. At any rate, Grip believe she might be his half sister and was determined to find her and give Julia her inheritance is she was his sister. Accordingly, he hired the Pinkerton to locate her. Learning that she was living in Kansas City, Missouri, he traveled there and unknowingly meets a beautiful woman, in a Kansas City restaurant who happens to be Julia. Julia lived only a few block away with her aunt’s family. Grip and Julia fell in love and both wished that they could learn who her father really is so they can develop either a romantic relationship or settle for a close brother and sister friendship. As the story develops, we learn that although Grip has never shot or killed anyone before, but thankfully, he loves guns and knives of all sorts and becomes an expert with each. His life will depend on that expertise when he faces ruthless professional killers while helping other. Grip develops his new homestead, protects others, tends to his horses and dogs, as he prepares to relocate trusted employees, Julia, and Julia’s family to their new homes on his ranch in Utah. There are plenty of bad guys, villains, gunfights in this mesmerizing late 1880’s action-packed old Western tale. C. J. Petit is a wonderful storyteller who I really enjoy and recommend to family, friends, and others who love a spellbinding western with a bit of romance. Enjoy!
Review: Good Book - I have enjoyed all of Mr Petits books including this one. He always has an interesting twist, a bit of romance and a very likable hero. I will read more of his books.

It is quite evident that this author is not only highly skilled but also very much enjoyed creating this story and all it's characters. The story is written about a very wealthy but also a very selfish and mean spirited man with a criminal mind who goes to no limits to advance his wealth and kingdom. When this man assaninated his son then takes over all his wealth and through great disgust of his father strives to correct all his fathers terrible traits. Then he also meets a very pretty young lady who he instantly loves not only because of her beauty but also because of her great personality. Grip also uses his new found wealth to help people who are less fortunate and at the same time bullied but people with wealth and power. Our Author then goes to write an incredible ending.. A really great story.
