I’m a fan of the director (who later went on to direct the Dune movies). After only seeing it once, I decided to pick it up on 4k UHD. I just rewatched it again last night and it’s still great. It’s well written, well acted, well directed and well shot. Benecio Del Toro especially steals the show in this, which is why they gave him a sequel (though I haven’t seen that, and heard it wasn’t great). I think this is a great sounding, great looking disc and am happy I got it. Review: An action pic with intelligence. - Denis Villeneuve and crew are an amazing new force in film. His past films are amazing for the most part, and this one is no exception. I am glad Hollywood saw that this guy and his team can craft some really great films and decided to hire him for some bigger budget fair. His previous films in Enemy, Incendies, and Prisoners were all very creative and enthralling. But now he is on the BIG circuit, and one can only hope that creativity stays put. For Sicario it does. This is a somewhat quiet but mesmerizing thriller you might mistake for not being a big Hollywood production at all. But the acting is first rate here, there is a sense of realism lacking in worse action pictures, and the characters are fleshed out just enough to keep you interested in the main trio, always wondering what might happen to any one of them in the next scene. The script is micromanaged and assertive in its control of the reasoning behind each character's decisions, though, we are never truly privy to some of the past happenings in each of their lives. Blunt totally shines here as does Del Toro. Brolin as well puts in a quality performance as the veteran CIA officer. The three actors really bring out the details in the script, and the direction and cinematography as well the score are all spot on. This is quality film.
