Does pick up uk police mobile speed camera Van's and will pick up police laser gun.

I went through handheld police speed gun last week twice and the unit failed both times

On the site the latest update is for 2019 has there been any updates since then ??

I can see from their website updated up Nov 2021

What is the maximum Range alert?

You can set the GPS based alerts to 1100m which is over 1km.

So is this worth buying or am I better picking another one

I am very satisfied with this. I chose it rather than the Road Angel Pure, which was on special offer but still required an expensive annual subscription, which I did not want to pay. This does the job well, and is extremely accurate.
