Jonas Salk and the Polio Vaccine (Inventions and Discovery) Paperback – Illustrated, January 31, 2007

My four and seven year old were able to understand and enjoy this story. Their great grandfather had polio as a young adult, so this story hit exceptionally close to home. We read the book together to help them understand and appreciate their own vaccines, so they didn't think of "shots" as something bad, but so they could understand the privilege that they have to get the vaccines instead of the diseases they prevent.The comic-book style of the story kept my kids (especially the 4 year old) engaged, but it was written in a way that told the story well and clearly enough that they could retell the story to friends. It offered us opportunity to discuss what polio is, how the immune system works, and transmission and prevention of disease. I'm looking forward to getting other books in this series.Very well done and highly recommended

I have a five year old who had a lot of questions about Polio and also didn't understand why we need to get vaccines. This book told how JS developed the Polio vaccine, teaches about the epidemic before the vaccine, and the aftermath.My son gets it now, and he loved the graphic format.

These books are a fun way to add inventors and their inventions to our homeschool curriculum. I love the whole set!

Interesting an enjoyable read for my 8 year old who had to read a biography of an inventor. The format made it more interesting for him and he learned a lot from it.

My 9 year old daughter is obsessed with this book. She really loves it, and it is honestly empowering her to feel that a vaccine will be developed for COVID-19, and that maybe she could even develop one herself some day. Like literally, she's written down notes on the procedures and has learned quite a bit. It's accurate, engaging, well-written, and great illustrations.
