Tony Parks combines Namibian history and characters in a fast paced novel
I have read all of Tony Park’s novels. This one was unique in that it was based on a number of real characters and facts about the German occupation of Namibia and their battles to maintain control over the Nama people. This was combined with fictional characters some of whom were supposed to be relatives of the historic characters. The book bounced back and forth 100+ years in a fast paced story that connected the people and events in a stoywith many twists and turns.

Really happy I read this book and found this author.
Being a fan of history and southern Africa, I thoroughly enjoyed Ghosts of the Past. It was a pure joy page turner that further kindled the fire to visit Africa again. I was minorly perturbed that I hadn't read any Tony Park books up to now until realizing that I have 15+ or so books ahead of me to devour, like I did this one in 2 days. It's a great feeling to find an author one enjoys and finding they have penned more than a few books. Ghosts of the Past may be the first book I've read by Park, but it certainly isn't the last. I've already downloaded my second and I have only finished reading the first minutes ago.

Excellent reading!
This is an excellent book, well written and researched. The real time info on places, tourist destinations and travelling in South Africa was done well (can even serve as planning tool for tourists). The history of the German occupation of what is now known as Namibia and the war atrocities are important to take note of. This is partially based on a true story and the info is well integrated from the different character's perspectives. The pace is fast and this is indeed a page turner. I canhighly recommend this book to anyone interested in colonial wars in southern Africa.

Slow story
While the history of Namibia and South Africa was interesting, I found the story line dull. It took me 6 weeks to finish this novel, when I usually read a novel in 2 or less weeks. The character development lacked complexity.

Past vs present
Whilst I enjoyed the story and recognized all the amount of research that must have taken place, there was just a bit too much history which was constantly being delved into.

Love books about the wilds of Africa
Always enjoy Tony Parks books bitten years ago by Wilbur Smith's earlier book about Africa. He writes in the same mould as an early day Wilbur used to write. Both have their own distinct way of writing which I enjoy.

Great book
Fascinating story about Namibia's past and how it can influence people's life in the present. I've been to Namibia and have seen the wild horses so when reading about them felt like being there again.

Southern Africa
As always, a good read but, slightly difficult getting to terms with all the names at different historical times. However, I had limited reading times at the beginning which didn’t help.
