Check the book carefully on receipt
I bought the Dinosaurs version of this book as a birthday present for a friend's 5 year old. It was so good I nearly kept it for myself, and the 5 year old loved it. So I got this Sea Monsters one while it is reduced from £35 to £25 to put aside for him for Christmas.I've knocked off a star because unfortunately, on checking this book, one of the pop ups ripped while I was gently trying to open it (and I was being VERY gentle because I'd read about ripping on the reviews of the Dinosaur version). I'm still within the returns window but can't face trying to return it during Covid. So I'm just hoping I can mend it with glue. Not ideal for a gift but I guess it won't last long in the enthusiastic hands of the 5 year old anyway. These books are just wonderful. They are only a few pages long but each page is packed full, with one large main pop up on each spread and then further small pop ups hidden in the corners of each page; sometimes more than one in each corner. So surprising and exciting. I think I prefer the dinosaur one, but that may be because I saw it first and didn't know how good these books could be.Even with the rip, this book is brilliant. Just check the book carefully on receipt so that you can return it if needs be.

Takes Pop-up Books to a Whole New Level.
I originally came across the Dinosaur pop-up book and bought it for my son. He absolutely loved it as I do.The books are incredibly intricate and relatively sturdy. The artwork is astonishing and the way the images fold out to create complex 3d pictures is magical. How these books are designed from the original conception to the final product, I have no idea but the effect is amazing. There are usually four main pages that contain the main image that folds out and immediately takes your attention. Thee are also three or four sub-pages or mini books on each page that fold out, in turn, providing even more 3d pictures. The additional writing produces a high level of detail and content to produce a richly satisfying book that both I and my son constantly revisit. They also make perfect presents with a difference!I was so impressed that I have been collecting all the pop-up books by Robert Sabuda.

So much detail to this book
This book has so much detail its pretty remarkable, the pop up parts of the book are fantastic like the dinosaur one and are so detailed its really captured the kids imagination and become a bit of a page turner. This and the dinosaur book have become their go to books when they come home simply because of the content. That being said, its pretty complex as well and some of the technical language probably could have been toned down to make it a bit more user friendly to kids. We often read it together and they really enjoy it. I cant really praise this book enough for the quality and contents thats in it. Perfect for any young kid who loves dinosaurs.

Beautiful book but not many sharks!
My 4 year old loves this book and has been so careful with all the moving parts, I was quite worried for the price it would just get wrecked but he loves it and is really gentle with it. My only real complaint is that the title is a bit misleading. We thought it would have more info about varieties of shark but it's mostly about prehistoric sea sea creatures and just one page has modern sharks.

Best one of the series
My Son already had the dinosaur book (which is amazing) and I struggled to think this shark and other sea monsters book could live up to it. In my opinion it’s better and there seem to be more hidden sections. Really informative and a great gift. Can’t quite get my head around how they make them, utter genius!
