## Description

desertcart.com: Tractive Smart Dog GPS Tracker | Live Pet Tracker with Virtual Fence | Vital Signs Monitoring of Heart & Respiratory Rate | Dog Collar Attachment (White) : Pet Supplies

Review: Great Tracker For the Price - On my second year of using this tracker for my two female hound dogs. I live in a rural area on the edge of a national forest. My two dogs have a penchant for running off on little "adventures" that take them miles and miles from our home. They always come back but there are hunters, ranchers with cattle, a moderately busy scenic highway nearby, coyotes, etc. etc -- plenty of hazards. I got the tracker so that I could go out and run the little rascals down and retrieve them when they take one of these jaunts and it has worked well for that. If I can get within 500 - 1000 feet of them and whistle they will come right to me, with a "Gee, you're out here too? You should have come with us, it was great!" look on their faces. The only slight drawback is that the tracking is dependent on 1) cell phone coverage and 2) GPS reception. Since our area is remote, mountainous and heavily forested both of these can be spotty or even non-existent depending on where the dogs are. The result is that they drop off the map for some period of time and then re-appear when the tracker gets in range of a cell signal and/or GPS. This coupled with the sparse road network means that it can take some time to run them down but over the last two years I have managed to run them down every time they have taken off. Sometimes it takes an hour or two but that is not the fault of the unit --- it's the environment I live in. I've found that the location the unit gives is very accurate. Live mode works very well if you have a strong enough cell/GPS signal. The unit has saved me a lot of worrying and fretting. Before I got it I would have no idea at all where they were and I would just have wait (and hope) they would not get into trouble and would find their way back. BTW, these two must have a biological GPS built into them because after I got the tracker I found that they would go up to 5 miles away and cover a track of 15 miles or so in just a few hours! With the unit I can know, with assurance, that (for instance) "Oh, they're running down the power line right of way to the lake, no big deal" or "They're over at the Smith's ranch, probably chasing calves so I better get them". So now, if I worry, at least it's more informed worrying! : > The unit seems to be durable and waterproof. This is my second year with it and it's holding up well. My dogs come back covered in mud, water, cockleburrs, etc. The unit is scratched up a bit but otherwise no worse for the wear. Battery life is very good. In our wifi power saving zone the battery would probably last up to a week (guessing). Out of the power saving zone and with a lot of live mode tracking I would estimate that battery life would be 1 -2 days. Can't really say for sure because I charge the unit every night, just in case. My dogs are getting a bit older now and are less adventurous; this unit helped me get them through their adolescence and was certainly worth every penny for the unit and subscription! UPDATE: February 2025 The battery on the tracker that I purchased nearly two years ago degraded to the point that I would have to charge it every night. The charge would barely last 24 hours, less if I was using live tracking. A couple of times it went flat while I was still out looking for my dogs. So, I bought another one. The newer model has an updated charging arrangement that is a cradle that securely snaps on to the tracker. The older model had a cord with a magnetic socket that was easy to detach so you had to be careful when setting it down or the connection would be lost. So the new charging arrangement is definitely an improvement. The newer model has great battery life. So far I have gone 3 - 4 day (with a fair amount of life tracking in there) without it dropping below 50%. This better than I got when my first unit was new so perhaps Tractive has improved some of the inner workings too. So -- not a complaint at all. I got almost two years use out of the first tracker and I think that is quite good. Nothing lasts forever, all things wear out and for the price (less than $50) I consider this good longevity. Great product, at least for me, and I will definitely renew my subscription (for the third year) come March when it expires.
Review: Works great and in the middle of no where - I got this because it has a SIM card in it like a cell phone and has its own service. Other trackers use other people's nearby cell phone services to track your pet. That isn't helpful because I live in the middle of no where in the desert. Verizon, AT&T, Spectrum and most other service providers do not or barely work out here. I have Metro and it does. I don't know who the provider is for Tractiv, but this tracker is working great!! It is a lot lighter and smaller than I expected which is great. My deaf 15 yr old service dog went missing a couple weeks ago for 5 days and nights. I couldn't eat or sleep. It really messed me up. I wake up panicked still. It's getting better. The people that had her said that all she did was cry, wouldn't come out from her hiding place and wouldn't eat either. 😭 People were out here with drones, scouring the desert helping me look for her. It did help narrow my search. Flyers on fences worked!! I can NEVER let that happen to her again.😭 She's getting older and may wander. There are coyotes and snakes and all kinds of other dangers out here. I'm so grateful a nice older couple had her and their dog loved her. He was very mad when we took her away. I can't stop crying while writing this. I feel like a bad dog Mom. 😭 Sooo, the app tells you the battery life, if they're sleeping, activity levels and history, location history, you can share their tracking with family or friends, alerts you if your fur baby leaves the virtual fences you place in the app, and has other really cool features like radar that it uses to pinpoint exact location within your Bluetooth range. I'm sure it's great for smaller pets. Lights and sound options when you're looking for them also. Unfortunately, if you do not have WiFi to put it in "safe at home" mode it uses more battery life. You have to charge it every 3-4 days like a cell phone. It last much longer if you do have WiFi. The subscription is NOT $5 a month. It's $9 a month for the year, or $6-$7 for 2 years. $5 is a false advertisement. It's worth every penny to me though. Much cheaper than a cell phone. I see it as a way for her to call home and tell me where she is if anything happens kind of thing. The subscription does offer free replacement of the device if it is lost. Don't wait to get a device like this. I wish I had it before that happened. There are options like the ring tags but someone has to find and scan the tag. Please make sure you chose the best product for you and your pet. So far, I absolutely love it. Thank you desertcart and Tractiv for the peace of mind. Truly.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: So if i am somewhere where at&t isn't available but Verizon is, it'll connect to Verizon automatically or whatever?**
A: In the USA, our trackers can connect to the following networks: AT&T Mobility, Viaero Wireless USA, T-Mobile USA, and Verizon USA. Therefore, if the Verizon network is the strongest in the area, the tracker will connect to Verizon, yes :)

**Q: How does this work?**
A: It works from an app on your smartphone. There is a cost. It does seem pricey but for me my pups safety is worth the price. The app is easy to use. Once all the info is entered (which is not difficult) it will begin to track your pup. You can even put a picture of you pup. It will show the picture on the map of where your pup is and also there is a blue dot of where you are. While you are looking for your pup it will track where the pup is and where you are, so you can see how close you are to you pup. I am really impressed with it. I have 2 dogs and it will track both of them.

**Q: Hi can i know, can it be use in malaysia? and also, it use 2g/3g/4g?**
A: Hi there, unfortunately we do not recommend using this tracker in Malaysia due to network incompatibilities. The tracker can connect to 2G and 4G networks.

**Q: What network does it use in the USA ?**
A: Tractive has several roaming partners in every country - therefore we do work with different providers in the US as well. We always try to connect to the best available network.
In the US our trackers work with the following roaming partners: AT&T Mobility, Viaero Wireless USA, T-Mobile USA, Verizon USA

### ⭐ Weak battery quality control, but still decent for the money
*by R***F on May 18, 2021*

(Update at bottom) I’ll start with the star rating. I wouldn’t give it a 2 but it doesn’t deserve 3 either, and because Amazon I can’t give it the 2.5 it should get. I ordered one for both of my dogs and the battery life was significantly worse than advertised on one and just less than advertised on the other. One lasted all of 8-10 hours and the other lasted about a day and a half. I contacted support a week after receiving them and got the awful one replaced, but I had to pay return shipping. Now the new one lasts about 2 days and my other one lasts about a day and a half at best. I’d get the other one replaced as well but I’m worried I’ll get one that’s even worse, or even better than the other one and my OCD just can’t handle that right now. GPS signal drift is also an issue for me. Constantly I get notifications that they left the virtual fence while they are right next to me and no where near the boundaries. Before you ask, no. There isn’t a single tree obstructing the view of the sky, and we have average cell reception for the LTE. As well as signal drift, I have about a 60% failure rate for live tracking. More often than not, it takes a solid 5 minutes of trying and refreshing to get the live tracking to work. Eventually it always has, but if you’re actually trying to find a lost pet, it’ll make you lose confidence in this device pretty quickly. The Activity tracking is interesting to say the least. I can’t easily prove if it’s correct, but it’s certainly tracking something. If it’s going off of GPS movement then it’s utterly worthless. If it has sensors in it to track physical movements then it’s probably fairly accurate, but this isn’t why I bought these so I really don’t care either way. If it’s correct then my dogs are more active than any other dog in my “Local” tab by quite a bit. Overall you get what you pay for. Extremely accurate GPS systems that just work are very expensive and certainly not small enough to fit on any dog comfortably. If you have a GOOD LTE connection and a clear view of the sky it’s a pretty good product, but be aware that the battery quality control sucks. You might get 2 winners, or you could have to replace them several times to get what’s advertised. Also, buy some replacement rubber strap things from their website. They tear easily if your dogs like to play rough. **UPDATE** Absolutely 100% can not recommend this product anymore. The quality control is unacceptable. Device updates DO NOT work, and customer service declined quite a bit since my first issue. I had to return another tracker that was having serious problems, and this return 100% made me regret buying these. While the person I was working with (for over a week…) wasn’t “rude”, they simply didn’t want to do anything about my issue. It wasn’t until I told them there is no way I will be continuing my service unless this issue gets resolved, that they actually did their job. I payed for the yearly subscription with the advanced or premium support. Fast food restaurants have better customer service than these people. Neither tracker will live track anymore while on the dog, the one that I JUST got replaced has a significantly weaker battery than the broken one I sent back, the “battery saving WiFi zone” doesn’t work at all, and now the new one doesn’t have that update and won’t install the update. The only way I could justify using these is if they sent me a bunch of them and gave me free service for 5+ years. That’s what it’ll take for me to continue using these after my subscription runs out. 11/27/2021 I’m now on my 6th and 7th trackers. If the replacement cost wasn’t just shipping, there’s no way I would have gotten to this point. DO. NOT. BUY
