I thought it was useful to have in addition to a filter pump to bring water back to Camp. It seemed well-made, how long it will last Would probably depend on how dirty the water is that you put through it ,if you clean it consistently and if you were careful not to abuse it. Ive used this many times on camping trips. Not sure how many litres the filter can take but so far done about 4 trips with it and the water tastes just list it did when the filter was brand new. The water taste is a bit like water from a brita filter. It tastes clean and removes all the nasty stuff that you don't see with a naked eye. Normally I would buy 5 litre jugs of water and carry it to camp site but that's no longer required. This filter is a life saver and doesn't take much space in your backpack.
