Really enjoyed this book
Surprisingly well-written, "Into the Storm" was an absorbing account of a fascinating person. Can't say I'm a Timmer fan because I'm one of those who believes his extreme chasing style will one day get him and his whole crew killed, but you can't help but be intrigued by someone with that kind of passion. I appreciated the glimpse into his mind, snd I did appreciate that he lays it all out there for the world to see. He admits he's a cowboy, and cops to some of his less-than-admirable traits, something a lesser character would have been incapable of. Overall, a very informative and entertaining read that was worth the time and money I invested in it.

Exciting book, that fills in a lot of gaps
I love the T.V. show "Stormchasers," and this book helped fill in a lot of gaps that the t.v. show doesn't have time to answer or might appear boring to the average watcher. I loved learning the details of Reed's life that got him to this point. I wish the book had explained the history of some of his other relationships a bit more, like with Joel. It introduces Joel as just a guy that helps Reed get to a tornado over the phone one day, but I wanted to know how they meet, etc., since the t.v. show puts a lot of emphasis on their relationship.Overall, this is a very exciting book that is hard to put down. I wish there was less apologizing and justifying of Reed's actions in the book, but I guess that's been a large part of his stormchasing life so far. The fact that the entire community doesn't view Reed as a necessity for what everyone is trying to accomplish amazes me. Sure, he's a bit crazy and loud, but look at what he's accomplished in the past 10 years. And he's not just some person who gets off to tornadoes. I think the fact that he's devoted his entire life to stormchasing, including his education, and the fact he puts almost all of his money back into the adventure should automatically grant him some leeway with the community. I just hope I don't read a Steve Irwin type of headline one day about Reed.If you like the t.v. show, you'll love Reed's book. I can't wait for more details in another book.

Into The Storm, Into Reed Timmer's Mind
I was worried at first about buying this book. I'll admit, what most people get to see of Reed on Discovery's Storm Chasers, is an enthusiastic, loud, and at times bossy, rude Reed. I didn't know how this would translate into a book, especially not seeing Reed as, well, an author.I knew prior to this book Reed's celebrity, his site tornadovideos.net, his love and passion for weather, and his studies to get a Ph.D. Yet, while this all discussed in his book, you're able to get a different perspective of Reed, one that I feel Discovery fails to show, or twists in the editing room.I found reading this book a different side of Reed, a side that is just as passionate as we see on TV, but perhaps deeper. He's emotive, and clearly can express that emotion in his writings about his successes, and failures. One gets a sense of what has lead up to the past two seasons of Storm Chasers, and how Reed was and had developed prior to ever being on the show. And I liked that.I enjoyed reading about Reed's adventures, and understood his pain when he failed or had mistakenly let his passion and love get the best of him. One gets an understanding as to why Reed, is well, Reed. Why he chases the way he does, and not like some other chasers - I'm looking at you Vortex 2. He explains that much of the storm chase community sees him as outlandish, rogue, and a trouble maker that effects other storm chasers, but he does not brush it off in his book. He builds an explanation to why he is seen that way and gives argument to both views of Storm Chasing. Yet, I believe that with Reed's research oriented goals, which he becomes more attracted to in his later years, will yield information that few other chasers can get because they are stuck in old chase protocol.I think what I enjoyed most about this book is that Reed does not hide behind anything. He says what he wants to say, good and bad. He explains his view of things, his thoughts, his ideas and passions. This book allows the reader to get inside Reed's head, understand him more than what Discovery shows - a lot more in fact. But, for the reader who does not know Reed, or does not watch Discovery's Storm Chasers, I still think this is a good read. It gives depth to the life of a storm chaser, while be it, not the average one, but a storm chaser nonetheless. Reed does an excellent job of giving the reader the basis of storm mechanics without going through the many equations, the physics and math involved. He explains things in terms anyone can understand, and while they are basic, it is enough to give anyone an idea of what is going on in a storm. Truth be said, I wouldn't, or couldn't chase a storm with the information that Reed does talk about, but that's not what this book is about. Its about a storm chaser named Reed Timmer, expressing his origins to his passion, his love, his job, his life, and the successes and failures endured along the way to make him who he is today. However, to the reader who is interested in understand what a storm chase at its best, and worst is like, this is an ideal read. I couldn't put this book down, and very few books are able to captivate me in that way. It was not just my own personal passion for storms and severe weather that let me enjoy this book, but that the way it was written is captivating to even those who know nothing about storm chasing or weather.Overall, it was a good read. I enjoyed it a lot, and while this is perhaps more focused to the viewers of Discovery's Storm Chasers, I would still recommend this to those interested in the subject.

Passion and Glory and Convenience Store Food
A very personal account of one man's obsessions, primarily with violent and extreme weather. Reed Timmer and his co writer make storm chasing very personal and real. The book has a great arc as the narrator progresses from simple passion and curiosity about tornados through learning to understand them somewhat and respect them both scientifically and personaly. We learn what is being learned by him and other storm chasers about tornados and how they behave. We also get great insight into what makes Reed Timmer tick...Timmer also makes some very salient observations about science and climate change and what we can expect in the future that look very prescient after the devastating historic tornadic outbreaks of 2011. Also the great New England Halloween snow storm/ blackout and a super storm hitting Alaska as I write this. More fall tornados too. A timely book and fun to read.

Part of me has wanted to chase tornados for a long time, but I'm not brave enough to do it, so this fulfills the need.

Vielen Dank!

Cool book
Quick delivery, good price. Was slightly disappointed at the quality of pictures inside, however the rest of the book was great. It came slightly bent, however that was likely due to the way it was shipped
