Otterbox [Defender Series] Samsung Galaxy S5 Case - Frustration-Free Packaging Protective Case for Galaxy S5 - Glacier (White/Gunmetal Grey)

I was a little hesitant at first when ordering this case due to the fact that the defender cases have been super bulky in the past. Much to my surprise, Otterbox and their Defender Series Cases have come a long way since I contemplated ordering one a few years ago. This case is extremely thin for the protection it seems to offer. The build quality is superb and should protect the phone very well! I love the built in screen protector as opposed to trying to line up the sticky screen protectors with a few of the cheaper cases. The price seems fair as well. I paid $49.95 on Amazon. If ordered directly from Otterbox it will cost around $10 more.At the time of this post, the Lifeproof Case for the s5 has not been released. A huge deciding factor in choosing Otterbox over Lifeproof is the mixed reviews the s4 Lifeproof Case received about echoing when people try to talk to you.The belt clip seems to be nice and lock the case into place, but realistically I'll never use it. I keep my phone in my pocket. The buttons seem stiff, but from what I've read it's common at first on Otterbox cases.Overall, this case is a little pricey costing about 25% of the phone's cost after a contract renewal, but I feel it's definitely worth it (especially when you consider the alternative is paying full price for an s5 because yours broke in the middle of your contract). Lifeproof will cost you about $20-$30 more.I'll try to update this review accordingly as time progresses!*****UPDATE: 7/8/2014 - I've had this case for a little over 3 months now and I still really like it! I've only taken it off of my phone 1 time since purchasing (to clean the dust out and reset the phone by pulling the battery). It was very easy and quick to remove. This case has definitely protected my phone against my toddler's destructive ways on numerous occasions. The only problem I've noticed is that sometimes the case's buttons will slip off of the phone's buttons when I try to adjust the volume. It's not a big deal. I just hit the button again until it works correctly.The screen protector is still smooth and my finger is able to glide across it effortlessly, which is nice since I am addicted to my phone and use it almost nonstop.I've talked several coworkers and friends into purchasing this case. So far I haven't had any complaints from them!

The OTTERBOX Defender Series continues its reign as the king of protective cases. Ultra-sleek sophisticated engineering provides maximum toughness w minimum bulk or added weight. Amazingly snug fit w full access to all ports, features, sensors, & controls.NOTE: Those with large fingers and/or short fingernails will find opening the GALAXY charge port cover extremely difficult. This SAMSUNG design flaw exists w or w/o a phone case so the OTTERBOX really isn't at fault. The best solution is to remove the plastic door entirely. Otherwise tape a small paperclip, tweezers, knife, or curved manicure scissors to the charger so u won't have to search for one every day.The only real pain w this product is separating the two hard covers when removing the OTTERBOX. To access the battery, SIM, microSD, etc. pull the rubber ear-jack cover away from the phone and remove the "bounce case". Next use a quarter or dime (NOT A KNIFE) to pry the top and bottom pieces apart. Insert the coin under the side latch located above the on/off button at the "2-O'Clock" position. Work your way around the rim to pop the other five latches. Everything else is great.The belt clip is superior to all others in terms of security, stability, added protection, and functionality. The design provides rigid support (phone doesn't move once it's clipped in), safety (won't pop out of the case when bumped or jostled), protection (virtually impossible to damage screen when clipped "face in), versatility (can be clipped in w the screen side in view), yet the phone can be inserted & removed w ease. The clip case also has a 30* angled viewstand which rotates for either vertical or horizontal usage.I highly recommend this product be used at all times especially w the GALAXY S5 because of its delicate screen, multiple sensors, and sensitive components. I just received my otterbox defender today for my galaxy s5 and I couldn't be more pleased. I've been using a spigen air cushion clear back case which I also loved but I felt like I needed a bit more protection for the screen of the phone in case of a face down drop. I run a lot outside and use my phone for GPS distances as well as music and I'm always afraid of the damage dropping my phone could do. The included belt clip will also be nice to have on my next run. I had trouble getting the rubber outer casing off and my husband had to help me with it but once I got the phone into the case and everything was put back together, I was thrilled. The color was exactly as described (I got the pink and white) and the added bulk /weight makes the phone feel more sturdy. I really like the beveled edge on the screen too in case of a screen face drop. I love the built in screen protector and don't mind that it's not 100% flush with the screen. It's not like you can feel it pressing in or anything. I do see some rainbow effects where the screen protector does touch the screen for a bit after you've touched that area but it's not enough to complain about or even lower my rating. If I were to lower my rating, it would only be because I had such difficulty removing the tight rubber casing. But still, I'm very impressed and feel that 5 stars is appropriate. Note: make sure you clean your phone screen well with a non lint cloth and do your very best to not touch the back side of the screen protector before putting on the front of the case. This will save you aggravation of dirt getting in between the screen and the protector and should give you a crystal clean view.

High quality materials and construction paired with rugged durability and functional access to your device.A mobile device is very fragile and vulnerable to damage, not to mention retails between $500.00-$1000.00. Otter box wraps that device in rugged protection AND peace of mind. I have put my Otter box to the test and It surpassed my expectations

Excellent case. It has saved my phone countless times. It is expensive but the peace of mind it offers is totally worth it. I often do manual labor and have it hanging off my belt. It's taken a beating several times, fell down the stairs, fell flat on the screen and still absolutely nothing. Buy it if you need a case, it's a good investment.
