It works best with teams of 4-8 people. I played it a few times just me and my wife and we both had fun, but it certainly lacks that thrill of competition when you play against another team. But, like I said, my 12 & 13 year old learned it in one play and love playing it. Besides, this game can be played team vs team or all in the same team (cooperative). I hope this helps a little.
