Amazing book, but came with smudge
There was a big brown spot on the front cover and had to return it.

Perfect gift
Our daughter enjoyed the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings movies very much. And as she is a voracious reader as well, we wanted to get her an proper copy of the Hobbit that she would be keen to keep with her throughout her life. It is also meant to inspire her to read more books of Tolkien’s work. We’re not disappointed with our choice. This is an outstanding hard bound copy of Tolkien’s tale. It contains well over a hundred beautiful colourful illustrations. And while the art doesn’t compare to the Peter Jackson movies it brings the story and characters to life in a refreshing way. The book also includes maps of Wilderwood and Thor's Map. The green cover has gold lettering and the pages come in high quality paper. All in all, a great and highly recommendable gift.

2013 illustrated (colour) version ~ 'Jemima Catlin'
The current stock images + 'LOOK INSIDE' facility above give an idea of the content. From the back cover:‘Bilbo Baggins enjoys a comfortable, unambitious life, rarely travelling further than the pantry of his hobbit-hole in Bag End. But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard, Gandalf, and a company of thirteen dwarves arrive on his doorstep to whisk him away on a journey to raid the treasure hoard of Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon...’Who could not be lured into the depths by that, especially this extra special hardback edition?Measuring around 18 cm x 24 cm x 3 cm, the pale green cloth-like cover has a subtle touch of gold colouring to the front & spine that mischievously glints in the change of light. It opens to dark green inside cover pages followed by 376 with a light sheen finish, punctuated with around 150 colour illustrations, by Jemima Catlin, some of which are full page.A forever copy for me & mine.[22 images attached © The Tolkien Estate 1937/1965, Jemima Catlin & HarperCollins/2013]

Full of lovely pictures - fantastic hardcover version (jemima Caitlin hardcover)
The Hobbit - Hardcover (Green) illustrates by Jemima Caitlin. This is a fantastic looking book, littered with colour illustrations on most pages. The pages are thick, white with a faint sheen. The illustrations are not as “mature” as those by Alan Lee, but I find reading the Hobbit easier than LOTR and therefore the younger artwork more suitable. The story itself has been reviewed many times but for me, I tried reading LOTR many years ago when the movies were released and struggled to persevere with them - accordingly I never bothered with the hobbit. As a soon be father I have spent a lot of time looking for illustrated novels and books and whilst I recognise that this is one for later down the line, it looked just what I wanted so bought it lest I forget to in years to come. When it arrived it was such a pleasure to see and hold that I begun to read and have not stopped since. If you are looking for a easy to read adventure with lots of illustrations - something with more depth than a graphic novel but not too thorough for young readers, this is it.I highly recommend this hardcover version and wish there were more illustrated novels like this.10/10.

5 Star Tale, 2 Star Edition
This review is for The Colour Illustrated paperback edition. The story is a children's classic and my almost 6 yr old is loving it as his bedtime story. The tale is worthy of 5 stars. This edition however is only worth two as the illustrations are not so great and the colour quality is very poor compared to the hardback edition that has been used as images in the listing.

Great book, well presented with pictures
Great book, Ive been reading this to my three year old daughter to try to expand vocabulary from the normal kids books. It works a treat and makes a great storytime read. Also has pictures on most of the pages which help kids follow the story. It does require a bit of glossing over when it comes to Goblin battles and giant spiders, but I'd rather she heres this in a book first than on the TV.
