Not a Gigabit Adapter
I bought this adapter because they advertised it as USB 3.1 Gigabit adapter,So I was expecting to get maximum gigabit speed on this adapter Today I ran some tests using Iperf, netperf and Mikrotik Bandwidth test, the maximum possible speed on this adapter was 249Mbps up/down. I own AmazonBasics Gigabit adapter and I can reach 800Mbps with that low cost USB 3.0 adapter! The only good thing about this adapter is android compatibility, I tried it on Galaxy S9 and S10+, ethernet appeared in connection setting almost instantly.I have to send it back to the seller.

Gets HOT fast
It works. But it gets extremely hot after just 15 minutes of use. I am not sure if it is safe to use because of the heat it generates.

RJ45 bacon saver, works with Ubuntu and Linux Mint 17.3
**Review is specifically for the 3.1 type c to RJ45 Ethernet**Bacon saver. Just bought a Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition (2016 Skylake), which comes with Ubuntu pre-loaded. Worked as it should (after I updated BIOS, as you should). The real bacon saving is when I went to install Linux Mint 17.3... and it wouldn't work with my Intel wifi chipset. This USB 3.1 dongle worked immediately with Linux Mint, and I couldn't be happier. I can now download my drivers and go about my business. Also, I was going to buy the Dell 3.1 Hub thing but it was expensive, had stuff I didn't need and I read comments about it not working for Linux. This little dongle was cheap... ummm, sorry... "Cost Effective" in comparison, much smaller and I appreciate the fact that the manufacturer and seller explicitly say "works With Linux", which it does.If you need a 3.1 dongle, buy this one, you can't go wrong.

Junk. Not even close to gigabit speeds
We have gigabit internet service at our house, and when I run a speed test the fastest I can get with this device and physically wired into our router is around 300mbps. Our Google Nest *WiFi* with the same laptop is around 450mbps. My desktop is nearly the full gigabit service at ~900mbps physically wired in. Interestingly the cheapo USB Amazon Basics gigabit ethernet adapter is able to get around 800mbps, so if you don't need USB-C, I'd suggest just buying the cheapo Amazon Basics adapter instead. Also, lest you think this is just a limitation of our internet connection and oddities with it, I also ran this test from PC-to-PC and got nearly identical speed results -- it's just that this adapter is junk.

Plug-n-play, works great, recommended
This adapter works great with my Asus Zenbook laptop. No issues with connectivity and speed tests show full speed over the ethernet to UBS C conversion. The adapter is compact and the USB C plug is small enough to fit between the micro HDMI port and a USB A port on either side - no issues. It does get warm, but nothing alarming. There is a green connection indicator LED as well as a green activity LED indicator. Device is plug and play in Windows 10 with no drivers to install.Build quality feels on par with the cost of the item. There's no reason to overspend on a "name brand" as this one works great.

Works as Expected
I purchased this adapter to use with the 12' MacBook. It works as expected. When I first connected it, there was no internet connection. I, then, restarted my MacBook and there was an internet connection. Plug and Play. No drivers to download. Perfect for any non technical person. This makes those big downloads faster when you hardwire to the router or switch. If you're a Prime member, then you can get it in one day or two days.I recommend this adapter.
