CEB Common English Pew Bible with Apocrypha Black

I already had a copy of the CEB for Kindle and was buying this bible as a gift. However, I instantly fell in love and bought one for myself as well. It was a bit of a risk for me to buy a new bible with no reviews, but it was well worth it. PROS: The cowhide is very soft, and it seems to be thick enough to last. The corners of the binding will not snag. The front cover is blank, the spine simple, and the back cover simply says "Genuine Cowhide" and the ISBN. The print block is balanced, the fonts are clean and modern, and the headings are tasteful. CONS: There is only one ribbon! The spine has ample room for two ribbons, and that might have been a nice touch, although it's a matter of personal preference. The dedication page doesn't really seem to mesh with the rest of the bible, and it feels thrown in. My only real complaint, however, is that CEB is not yet available in a single-column format (and even then, in leather). Such a readable translation ought to be printed in a readable format!

I have a copy of the common english Bible already. I bought it when it first came out, it is not hard to read at all. Makes sense of the Bible in common english. I bought this copy because as I grow older, my eyesight is not as good as it used to be. This is a new version just released with larger print. Fantastic. Would recomend this Bible to everyone even KJV fans. It gives you a different prespective on learning.

Easy to acknowledge the reading

I've been a Bible student for 30-plus years, and the CEB has become one of my favorite translations. It's accessible without being dumbed down, and scholarly without being remote. This is an excellent Bible -- it appears to be well-bound, although I can't say if it's Smythe-sewn or not (it does lie flat upon reading, though). The cover feels good, and while I wish it were genuine or at least bonded leather (the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars), it's well made. The Large Print is actually . . . Large, not the cramped, 10-pt but shoved-together type that often is called "large print." It's a gender-accurate translation, meaning that, true to the Greek, congregations are referred to as "brothers and sisters," for example, and not just "brothers." That doesn't make it "liberal," or "feminist," or "culture-accommodating;" it makes it accurate, and I think it's a very welcome addition to the Church.

CEB is a Bible that has not compromised itself for the sake of the modern trend of displaying a bias interpretation of scripture. It does not lean left or right, rather it is straight down the center of biblical criticism. It stands out as a cooperative effort as translation, with scholarship second to none. I am personally tired of the paraphrase boom, where would be translators subject scripture to their linguistic style and flowery inserts into passage after passage. CEB is for anyone looking for a breath of fresh air.

CEB is on the scene and I gotta tell ya...it's great! It breaks it down to OUR language. Don't get me wrong, there are still some New King James, that I must recite to get the full blow of what is being said, and how it's being said. I love it because even my 9 yr. old granddaughter can read it, and know what it's saying. The Message Bible, can be a little too lax in some of its verses, for things that should be forceful. Can't wait to get it on my Android, to read ANYWHERE.

What a blessing to have a Bible written the way people communicate today! The print isn't super-large like some large print books, and the paper, while sturdy, is a bit thin, but change either of those and you'd have a weightier book. For me this is just right.

I had heard about this bible and was doubtful however after checking it out I like it very much. It has the same information as the NKJV. which I also like very much. The CEB has large print which helps with us older people. I find I read longer then before, but check back with my NKJV so far outstanding.

It is a very readable translation which sometimes sheds fresh light on the meaning of a passage for me. Within the constraints which surround any translation, it is accurate and can be relied upon to give a good rendition of the meaning of the text in English. I commend it very highly. Translators-well done! It is also stoutly bound and the pages turn over easily.

Loved the translation. Size of the bible was appropriate. But the only diappointment is the font size. It is too small and might strain my eyes.

The new Common English Bible is much needed, and this edition does not disappoint. It is a handful, but the readability of the larger font is well worth it.

This is a perfect Pulpit Bible which is easy for all ages to read. The production,binding and general layout make this an ideal choice. The only downside with This Bible is that all spelling is American English but do not be put off by thiwill only really notice it by looking for the different spellings.

Bought this as a gift. Delivered the next day. Good size and is easily read. Good purchase.
