To activate and deactivate the alarm you must be directly in front of the device.
I bought this alarm as a deterrent for my cat who was being naughty and decided to use a corner of my apartment as her toilet instead of her litter tray. It worked perfectly and now Kitty has restarted using her litter tray after 6 months.
