It did both jobs very well. It cannot perform like a full table planer, but that is an unreasonable ask - it is great for what it is. In combination with a belt and/or orbital sander this is a good shaping tool as part of your fine or rough carpentry arsenal. I did hit a screw at one point and nicked the blade so thereafter it left a small stripe as I planed, but that is my bad not the machines. I only mention it as this slip pointed out that the blades are not a standard size. They are long narrow strips with no fastening holes, rather they clamp in to the rotor (there is a place to store two spares - that don't come with it - in the handle). The correct blades are available on amazon.ca as "DeWalt Genuine OEM Replacement Carbide Blade # 273794".
