Fantastic Craftsmanship
I’ve been slowly building my own personal ‘hot rod’ go-anywhere CX bike. For this build I’m going for pure awesomeness, so I’m carefully picking each component. The requirements for each component are simple: they have to function really well and they have to look awesome.Next up was the seatpost. I mulled over a bunch of various seatposts for a couple days. Should I go for carbon? Should I go for aluminum? What brand should I get? What color? During my search I kept coming across Thomson, which seems to be the gold standard for a really solid no frills yet still awesome seatpost, so I ordered one. This thing is perfect! The craftsmanship, quality and finish are way above average. I really dig how easy it is to adjust the saddle angle. With seatposts in the past I always had a problem getting it just right but with the Thomson it’s painlessly simple. I can’t figure out why this isn’t the standard way to set the angle, other seatposts overcomplicate it and make adjusting cumbersome.Yeah, the Elite isn’t the lightest seatpost, but whatever, this build isn’t about that. This is a finely crafted piece that will likely outlast me, even if I wreck my bike a few times. Next I’m going to swap out my stem and you better believe I’m going with a Thomson (likely the X4).If you don’t mind plunking down a bit more cash for something you can truly be proud of then I highly recommend considering a Thomson. This is one of the easiest 5-stars I’ve ever given, and I’m the annoyingly picky type.

One of the best posts out there!
I'm loving this Thompson post! The way it's made is worth every penny of its cost. Sadly, a very expensive carbon seat post started to crack and fail after 12 years. Lucky for me it didn't snap but didn't want to tempt fate and get another carbon post. The Thompson post is very simple to set up. To raise the back, tighten the rear bolt. Do the opposite to raise the nose of your saddle. Front to back adjustment is simple, too. Just loosen both bolts a bit to move the saddle to the desired location. There's a micrometer sort of scale on the post so you can duplicate your adjustment if you have to remove your saddle for any reason and dial it back in to the exact same spot later on. Since this post is inserted into a plastic sleeve inside my titanium seat tube, there was no need for any type of grease or anti-seize compound. I think a dab of grease would be needed if going into a steel or aluminum frame that doesn't have some sort of insert.

The Best. Period.
I've used these for years and years. Maybe not the lightest, but certainly not heavy by any stretch. Might lack the 'wow factor' of carbon, but they are more practical and durable, don't require friction paste--and aren't much heavier. They may look rather plain, too but, after a while, you come to realize that minimalism is the highest aesthetic, and that supreme quality beats everything else, hands-down. Adjustment may be tricky at first (basically one slight twist of one bolt, then another; repeat) but for those who demand the perfect set-up, it couldn't be any other way. A bonus for the effort: every Thomson comes inside a cool little carrying bag. Class.

this seat post is better than the stock post
I needed to move my center of gravity aft on my new MTB bike to lighten the front wheel. I added a shorter 45mm stem from the stock 90mm stem. added a pair of 50mm riser handlebars. just needed to move my saddle more aft. this thomson post moved my saddle back to were i can get more power strokes from my cranks due to no knee bend. this post did not move my body aft as much as i wanted while sitting but I gained power in my crank strokes. Of course I can always stand up on my pedals and pull my front wheel up.

Best all around seat post I've ever used and I've used lots
This is the standard against which all seat posts should be measured. Looks good, easy to use two-bolt clamp, and bombproof design. I have used several (they go out when I sell bikes and I get a new one to replace the OEM post when I buy a bike). I like the mid-post kink for the setback better than the setback at the clamp approach, but that's an aesthetic thing. Recommended: get a matching stem (X2 or X4).

Keeps saddle right where it should be
The stock seatpost that came on my Giant Talon 2 couldn’t keep the saddle secured and tight in rough rocky rides. This seatpost with its two screw adjustment system did the trick. Rock solid stable now. The offset design also gave me a little more room to work with as the stock straight post had me a little too close to the handlebars. Highly recommended.

Keeping It Up
Although I have yet to put it through all its paces, The Thomson Elite Bicycle Seatpost's proving to be a worthy replacement for a dated OEM seatpost it's replaced. In comparison, its overall adjustability alone is a welcome change as the old post made it difficult to zero in on a sweet spot in the positioning of the seat. Solid fasteners, strong build, reasonable weight and clean look make for a good buy for my particular bike and application.

Beautiful and easy to use
I ordered the setback post but received the straight. It was so nice that I decided to just keep it. There’s enough adjustability with the straight that I was able to get a comfortable seat position. It was really easy to install and adjust my seat angle. Not to mention it just looks great!
