This is a good book for learning the basics.
Having worked 50 years in the industry of mechanical engineering, there is a lot more to know, but this is a good starting point. There are better graphs and pictures in other more modern books. I recommend looking for other sources that are out there. To supplement this book. Tubal Cain is a real character in the Bible. This Tubal Cain has written lots of other books and is well known in model engineering circles Especially in Britain.

Surprisingly the "best" of the bunch!
When I purchased this book, I thought it would be just O.K., but it's become more dear to me and my anticipated projects with each turn of the page.Probably the most important of my recent re-beginning blacksmith education. Full revelation; I am recently retired and recall a childhood standing alongside my father, cranking the coal forge. He made Knives, Draw-Knives, Smith welding, Hinges, and more. I have some (small) hot iron/steel experience.I acquired a few tools of the trade and now have time to play. The books seemed a reasonable way to "NOT REINVENT ALL THE WHEELS" before me. I also recently attended some beginning blacksmith workshops held locally. As "they" say get doing.I recommend this book.Sean

This title could be “Everything You Will Need To Know About Hardening, Tempering & Heat Treating”
This book arrived ahead of schedule and I was pleasantly surprised that the author is one who I follow on YouTube. I found detailed answers to every question I have and a load of answers to questions I haven’t thought of. It is loaded with technical stuff, some of which may take me years to understand. It will surely become well used and dog eared in no time!

Down to what is required ti harden/temper steel
This is a practical book. I have read about half of it. If you have a way to heat steel to the hardening temp.with a magnet and be able to temper the steel using a rosebud heater or a forge, this book is for you.

Could be better
Guess paper & ink are getting too expensive to use a reasonable sized font. Too small for relaxed reading. Drawings and photographs could sure be improved.

Good reference
This book gets a little tedious at times, but overall is an excellent reference that documents information on the subject, some of which won't be used frequently, but when it is needed you'll be able to find it here. Excellent book. I highly recommend it.

Good general knowledge.
I am a retired machinist and most parts that needed heat treating would have been sent out. On some occasion parts would be hardened in the shop but this book would have been a lot of help. I would buy again.
