Without any aeration or specific lighting, the BBS navigate the maze and windup in the collection cup, and yes the collection cup does have a mesh bottom. Simply lift it out and rinse the BBS into the tank for feeding. They will continue to hatch and find their way to the cup over the course of several hours, but with diminishing numbers. You will have to wipe everything down before reloading for the next batch, but even that is a very simple task.
