Good Value
This is very fine, almost a powder. Not good for broadcasting if any breeze but should dissolve easily. I our temperatures have mostly been too cool to judge how well it works but I'm expecting standard results. This chemical has always killed algae well but takes higher solutions for pond muck. More effective root killers are way too expensive. This slows muck growth and treatments with strong diaquat keep the pond 98% weed free.

Totally works! Follow the directions
Used these on mesquite roots. I covered the exposed root with this, then buried the root w dirt. Went back a month later, and it did kill the roots. Soooo glad!!

Exactly what I needed
I was looking for a moderate amount of elemental copper to add to my pool so that I wouldn’t need as much chlorine shock when I got back from a trip and inevitably found out that my wife hadn’t bothered to check the chlorine levels let alone add any, and I was very tired of spending $100+ every month on top of regular chlorine demand simply because no one else was willing to spend 5 minutes a week when they could make me spend dozens of hours scrubbing the walls and floor instead. While not being pure elemental copper, this works essentially just as well for my purpose. This turned out to be exactly what I needed; now my chlorine demand has dramatically reduced, and when I’m gone for weeks at a time instead of returning to find a dark green and opaque pool with 0 chlorine I now find a bright blue with a slight turquoise tint that still has 1-2ppm of chlorine. Living in Arizona I still have to super-chlorinate my pool before I leave, and have trichlor pucks lined up in a dispenser above the water line so as the bottom one is dissolved the pucks above are able to slide into the water, giving me the same net effect as an automatic feeder (just in a much uglier package), so all together I have a much higher chlorine demand than most people, and this helps reduce that total chemical cost.Warning: if using this for any kind of swimming pool you still need chlorine (or bromine, etc). Copper doesn’t replace chlorine as it does nothing to kill most bacteria or virus, and can be misleading because with high copper levels your pool may be clear and blue, yet have so much bacteria in it that you might as well go to a landfill to buy groceries. This is because the copper kills all of the algae that makes your pool opaque or green, giving you an apparent water quality as if you constantly maintain a very high chlorine level, but without the chlorine. Since this can still make you very sick you run the risk of falling into an old heuristic of many pool owners: if it’s clear it’s safe to ignore and you only need to intervene if you can’t see the bottom. This heuristic may work marginally well if you only use chlorine, but is so bad at measuring safe chemical levels when copper is added that you might as well just flip a coin. As a result you actually need to pay more attention to chemical levels if you use copper than if you don’t, as the backup early warning signs of imminent unsafe water conditions just don’t exist.Would I buy again? Absolutely. By not needing the chlorine to kill off algae (and letting the copper do that) my total chlorine demand is so much lower that I’ve already broken even on this, and maintaining a 2-4 ppm chlorine level has become much easier, with both lower total demand and less fluctuation in chlorine levels. I’m so confident in this product that I’ve added it to one of my “standard” shopping lists - one that contains cyanuric acid, boric acid, baking soda, chlorine, and now copper (among others) that I use as my standard startup materials.Do I use this in my hot tub though? Absolutely not. Hot tub sanitation levels can go from safe to effectively biohazard incredibly fast (high heat + low volume), so I really don’t want anything that might mislead me as to the sanitation level of the water, while a large in-ground pool is unlikely to shift anywhere near that quickly. This is especially true if you have friends/neighbors/relatives with toddlers who will defecate in your hot tub and whose parents will try to hide it and not tell anyone (you know who you are, and if you’d told me that night when I asked then the hot tub may still have been been open for the rest of the weekend).

Used to Kill Tree Roots Invading Soil Pipe
The soil pipe running from my house to the sewer passes next to a mature Maple tree. Over the years I've had to hire plumbers to come and ream out the roots using a drill, which have invaded the pipe; an expensive proposition. On one occasion the quantity of roots removed was alarming! Then I started periodically flushing Copper Sulfate crystals into the pipe. The crystals are supposed to kill roots. They seem to work well enough, but slowly. These crystals are much smaller. They make a powder which, if one is not careful can form a dust which can be inhaled. They also have a much greater surface area which comes into contact with the roots. So far, they seem to be working well and all drains are flowing freely. The real test will probably come next spring when the tree enters its annual growth cycle. I have a large amount of crystal ready and waiting.
