TV remote turns candles on.. is there a way to have that not happen ??

Not quite sure why that is happening unless you were curious to see if tv remote would work in turning them on! Technology sometimes is unexplainable! You should be using just the candle remote, which, in turn, if directed towards the candles, should turn on! My thoughts are to keep candles away from tv area if that is where they are placed! Makes sense to me now that I am processing this! Let me know!

Can you use either tea candles or votive candles in these?

Yes you can use both. I use an amber tea light and it looks so cozy and warm looking .
