Exactly What I've Wanted for So Long
100% happy with my purchase of this device. Android is my preferred OS, and the laptop is my preferred form factor for more "real" type work. If you're an Android user and use to Google's work/productivity apps (i.e. Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive OR any of the third party apps that do the exact same thing on Android and still work with MS Office docs) than this is what this device affords:- You can truly and honestly have ONE OS environment on the phone in your pocket, tablet on your couch, and the laptop on the train and at work. Familiarity = immediate ease of use. ChromeOS is simple and easy to learn. But is still different and has it's own way of doing things. Android on this is the same Android as anywhere else.- A SINGLE INVESTMENT IN SOFTWARE (read: apps). Look at the "All" tab in your Play Store store account. Add up all the $.99 and other apps that you paid for. For most, its a reasonably significant investment. Even for ChromeOS users there are some apps that don't have a counterpart from Android, so the possibility of paying again exists. It just doesn't with Android on a laptop.- Light weight, both in OS and hardware leading to affordability.- Functionality with Android Wear now. I know ChromeOS will have this very very soon, some of us are still childishly impatient.- The best notification system available on any OS to stay on top of your digital life.- Periferal devices seem to work like they were built for the device. My Logitech wireless trackball mouse works great and did so immediately. It works with gaming controllers as well!- HDMI, SD Card reader, x2 USB ports (1-2.0 and 1-3.0), and 9 hours battery life. I am getting 16 of mixed use over a day.- The Tegra 4 with 2 GB of RAM isn't just fine, it's great for this device. Yes, Tergra JUST released the K1, and yes, some mobile devices are slated to start coming out with 3 GB RAM and the Chromebook standard seems to be 4. It doesn't matter. There is really good horsepower under the hood here. It's no slouchThis is not a Pro or a Con. Its a heads up if you have never used Android before:Multitasking is done the Android way via the recent screen. If you need multiple windows open at once to be functional you may not prefer or care to learn the Android style. If you know and are use to the Android style , and can utilize it effectively, then no worries. Some of the cons specific to this device:- Construction finishing is not top shelf as say a Macbook Air or Pixel. But neither is the price and its not meant to be. Overall the device is extremely sturdy, well built, nice to the touch (all surfaces from shell, track pad, and touch screen), with little to no flex.- Notification LED is a swing and a miss with it's location on the left side. It seems like a small cylinder of clear plastic that went from the outward surface to the inward surface of the screen shell with an LED glued to it could have been a huge win, offering an indicator light when closed or open. In the current configuration it's use is limited.- Vertical screen angle viewing degrades as you move up or down from square. The colors start to wash out a bit. Side to side is just fine though. So if you due a lot of hovering instead of siting square to the screen you'll notice this. It's not horrible by any stretch, but it's there. Picture quality is as expected from a full HD display and I find the colors to be very good. No issues there. That's all I can think of. I give this device 5 stars, despite the cons I've listed because for what I wanted and hoped I'd get from it, the HP Slatebook 14 delivers. The Android Wear smart watch on my wrist, the Note 2 in my pocket, the tablet in my living room, and now the laptop in my backpack all work together efficiently and seamlessly. I have zero regrets on my purchase and have my fingers crossed that HP (and others) sticks with this OS platform on this form factor.

I love it.
I have now been living with the Slate for a full week. I purchased it to replace a dying 5 year old HP CPQ 60 Intel Celeron WIndows 7 Ultimate laptop which cost twice as much at the time. I felt compelled to write this review because this device seems to be an attempt to do something new and I love it.At first I was very concerned about the yellow. It turns out the Slate looks much better in real life than the pictures on Amazon. This is a very nice replacement for my 4 year old single core , 2G celeron win 7 laptop. I was surprised how easy it is to do day to day computing without windows and do it in comfort.I pay only $205 for this wonder and I am living in day to day computing luxury because of it. I mean the keyboard is great, sound is excellent, monitor is gorgeous, and it runs all the Android Apps. Despite all the great impressions this machine made I am still not going to give it a 5 star rating due mainly to an annoying problem with its wifi reception and a lack of support for third party drivers. We have 2 iphones, one ipad , an appletv, a 2013 Nexus 7 and and all of these devices get a wifi signal of 3 bars or more anywhere in the house. The only way I get a decent network connection with this guy is to use an iDevice as a hotspot and the iPhone has to be within 6 inches of the lid edge or I only get a dot or nothing. With the iPad as a hotspot I can be within arm lengh and get 3 bars.Because the Slate is so cheap I went and purchased the TP-Link nano usb hoping it would work readily as it does with windows and linux but it didn't.This wifi issue may still be my fault and if it is then I'll come back and upgrade my rating. In the meantime I am enjoying this great device with my iPhone next to me while writting this review.I was also surprised the HP FILE MANAGER did not include a CIFS client. I have a NAS and I need to map 2 TB drive to my PC.The Media Player cannot locate any of the media files on the NAS . Same for the music player. Luckily my windows PC hasn't died yet :)This is a great idea for a windows laptop replacement. Let's not ruin it.For the price I had to pay, for the build quality of this device , for the luxurious keyboard, for the great speakers, for the touchscreen monitor, for the wide variety of applications availabIe for this OS, for the USB 3.0 port, for the 2 additional USB 2.0 ports, for the HDMI port, for the comfort of NOT HAVING A NOISY FAN, for not burning my lap with heat, for being easy to carry, for the 14 INCH SCREEN , for the FULL SIZE KEYBORD I am giving the HP SLATEBOOK 14 a 4 star rating on Amazon.Google and HP need to work quickly to minimize the impact the lack of 3rd party drivers may have on similar laptop if the plan is to compete with traditional windows laptops. They also need to enhance their tools and utilities.

Pretty cool for a first of it's type.
I've been waiting for this for a long time. Though I am not a big HP fan, I am a big fan of Android. I use my cellphone for 95% of my communication and activities. The other 5% is paying bills and misc printing. When I first received the laptop I was amazed on how thin it was. Its basicly the same thickness of a Macbook Air. I found it to be weighted very well (at least makes it feel sturdy). I am pleased with the nice display though I would have like to of seen an IPS display. Wireless mouse easily worked on the laptop and no issues with pen drives. Touch screen is very responsive along with the responsiveness of the laptop itself. All in all I am very pleased. I was also able to print and scan documents from my all in one printer without issues which was nice. Didn't even need to install drivers. Now for my gripes. Trying to open the laptop sometimes I find difficult as there doesnt seem to be a good place grab it to open it because its so thin and that the hinges are tight (Not a bad thing in the long run). Also the notification light to be on the side of the laptop I find odd. I feel there should have been one on the top of the screen visable from both sides (when its open and when its shut). Also there is this odd screen brightness transition/shifting between darks to lights and lights to darks. Its kinda like a moving gradient. Once I found out it was supposed to do that and that there wasnt something wrong, I felt much better about it and used to it. All in all I recommend it if you find youself using your tablet/cellphone more than your laptop but wish you could just merge the two into a legitimate laptop and not a tablet with a keyboard attachment.
