Great day pack, comfortable, good moisture control, versatile
A great day pack, just the right size to hold the necessities for a day hike. The pouch inside fits my BTR Double Thick 2 Litre Hydration Pack Bladder - Suitable for Cycling, Hiking, Running, Camping, Walking. BPA Free perfectly, and the hose fits well through the generous hydration tube opening. The outer bottle pockets can fit quite a chunky bottle (like a large 1.5L bottle of Highland Spring etc), without being too big for a standard plastic bottle. There are no zipped pockets inside, which is a shame, but there are a variety of small pockets within the front opening, and a plastic carabiner, useful for securing your keys. The main compartment has only the pouch for a hydration pack or laptop. There is an adjustable chest/sternum strap, which slides/adjusts vertically & horizontally, but no waist strap. Compared to the rest of the 24/Seven range, it has a much better set of storage pockets, and I visually inspected the whole range. It fits into a 55cm wheeled luggage trolley, which was important for me for travelling abroad. All the zips and seams appear to be quite secure, and the main compartment zip is covered by a flap to prevent the ingress of moistureThe flow system works reasonably well, though it works best in conjunction with the chest strap, as it raises the pack off your back a little. Used in combination with a Berghaus tech wicking shirt, it really reduces sweating, though it doesn't eliminate it all together. It's not as effective as something like the Vango Ventis, which has a mini 'frame' to hold the pack away from your back, but this comes at the expense of increased size and weight, and it was too big to fit in my hand luggage.Very pleased with it overall, just the right size for a day hike, and very comfortable to wear. With judicious packing it can be used for an overnight trip. I can fit my small Naturehike tent and gear inside, and rolled sleeping mat in the bungee straps.Edit: noticed today there is a little Velcro loop where the H2O inlet comes in, so you can hang the bladder/position the tube. There is also a securing loop on the front strap, to stop the drinking tube from wandering.Edit 2: A few months on, and many hikes later, proving to be a really good rucksack. The elasticated cords are good for keeping items handy, like rain jackets, and hiking poles.Edit 3: Added some photos. (2 nights pack) tent, sleep pad, sleeping bag, 2 days food, 2 litres water, 15 L dry bag, rain coat, down jacket, change clothes, toiletries and electronics. weight 8kg inc 2 L water BTR Double Thick 2 Litre Hydration Pack Bladder - Suitable for Cycling, Hiking, Running, Camping, Walking. Perfect fit for airline carry on
The manufacturer's specification says that the depth of this is 27cm making it too big for carry on. When I loaded my bag with a change of clothing, a 35mm SLR body, 100-400mm zoom lens, pair of binoculars, a packing cube, tablet and keyboard, travel documents, drybag and my carry on liquids it was only 21cm deep and perfect for carry on.The width and depth were 31 and 49 cm as per specification. The front bungee system was useful for holding a jacket whilst in transit.Another great product from Berghaus.

Not very well designed
I bought this for travelling too and from work, tbh I was expecting so much more from berghaus.I recently bought the north face equivalent but decided to send it back due to my 17in laptop not fitting in it. The quality was far better though, had better compartments for keeping keys, money or anything of value and just had a better solid feel to it! Now I am going to be keeping this just for the fact my laptop fits in it, otherwise it would be going straight back. The compartments are just open with no zips or Velcro and there’s very few of them. No where to store pens or anything like that either! Just don’t think it has been designed very well at all. Even though my laptop fits there’s very little padding or protection for it with the corners of my laptop sticking right out at the top corners of the bag.For a 30 litre backpack it could have so much more, especially for the price.I certainly won’t be keeping this very long at all, I’m basically going to use it until I come across something a little better.UPDATE: sending this bag back to amazon, bought a kroser travel laptop bag for cheaper which is better quality, more compartments and my laptop fits much better

Great size and well made.
I wanted a medium sized backpack for hiking and a trip to the USA, but didn't want it to be too bulky or look big. This bag is perfect for that. It has a huge main compartment with a pocket at the back, and a large front compartment that is about half the size of the main. The drawstrings at the front allow for securing the main and front compartments, and there are plenty of pockets in the front to store individual items, or keep things separate. The cushioning on the back is perfect, with a design to allow air flow to keep it aerated - which actually works! The only downside is that the bottom of the back is not padded, so unless you have a laptop bag that inserts into this (which I do luckily), I wouldn't recommend putting a laptop in there without something else cushioning it below. The bag itself is well manufactured, strong and sturdy, with a waterproof outer. Excellent quality material.

A good rucksack for Uni or other daily uses, but not useful for day hikes (unless you don't sweat..)
This is fine as a backpack for everyday use and seems to withstand a fair amount of punishment without complaint. It is definitely not a hiking day-bag though. The "Flow back system for enhanced comfort" just seems like a good way to trap a hot air pocket against your back. There are definitely better out there for those that want a decent day bag. Still use it fairly regularly for travelling and such, but ended up going to Mountain Warehouse and buying day-bag with a decent support that lifted it away from my back for (just) less than the price of this.
