Kelly L. Murdock's Autodesk 3ds Max 2019 Complete Reference Guide

Not worth the purchase price for reasons described in my review
I am giving this book two stars for the following reasons. First of all, for the amount I paid for it, seventy-one dollars, I expected the contents of the books to be in color and not black and white. Furthermore, some of the screenshots are decent and readable, while others are so pixelated and low resolution that I am left to wonder if they were put in by a grade school student with zero knowledge of screenshot to print transfer. To make matters worse, many of them are very low contrast and have print noise (like a laser printer whose toner/drum are running out/going bad) and other extraneous print marks on them - in all a very low quality print. Fortunately, the typography is sound, although the lettering is thin and small (font size wise). All of this is clearly time saving measures on the part of the author and cost-saving measures on the part of SDC, since the ebook version of this, which I also purchased, is in full color and most of the screenshots are more readable as a result. The pages are also _extremely_ thin. I understand that the weight of the book may be an issue, but once again, using paper this thin will only lead to wrinkling and wearing/tearing, not to mention that they are far more translucent as a result, which is especially intrusive if a dark black and white image appears on the back of a page behind text you are reading.Furthermore, with regard to contents, there is very little change year over year from prior editions of the book, going back many years. Each year it seems that the vast majority of the text, seemingly well in excess of 90% is copied from the prior book to each new edition. This is so blatant, that on page 210 where the author (attempts to) present a tutorial on cloning dinosaurs only to follow with the example of cloning ducks copied verbatim from prior editions, with some alternating references to ducks/dinosaurs (as if there was a partial edit to convert ducks to dinosaurs that was never finished, nor the actual example updated). Apparently, there was an intention to modernize this part, but there was no follow through in terms of the actual example tutorial shown. In all, I decided to give the book two stars:5 stars for the text content (taken in isolation and ignoring prior editions)-1 star for black and white, and a poor example of it (with regard to image contrast and quality)-1 star for the almost tissue like page thickness-1 star for rehashing almost everything from prior editions(Was considering subtracting another star for the complete lack of proofreading to make sure that the figures and examples actually match the text! There are numerous mistakes like submarine, dinosaur, and "foot bone" models being mentioned in the text only to have ducks and chickens shown in the figures. Decided against it, since the text in this book is fairly comprehensive for a first-time reader).Total: 2 stars

It is not readable.
You Read : << Open the Foot bones.max …etc. >>There is no Foot bones.max. in downloaded content. There is Docky final.max.Almost all of the downloaded scenes cannot be loaded correctly by 3ds max 2019.( According Autodesk the reason is that the scenes are too old, for 3DS Max 2019. )You Read : << Click the preset viewport label ..etc >>There is no << Preset view port >> There is << user defined view port >>.It looks like this book is written for an older version of 3DS max.It has no connection with 3DS Max 2019.The paper of the sheets is too thin.Images are only in Black And White.
