Liquitex GLOSS VAR FLEX SURFACE 32OZ

My favorite varnish. It's easy to use, exceptional quality and it goes a long way. I got the Gloss one in the 32 oz bottle first, then I went with the gallon just because I do not want to run out of it. I have nothing negative to say about it. It does not yellow, it leaves a satin finish and it goes on smoothly with no issue.I know it's better to use the sponge applicator, but I use a regular brush every time with zero issues. I just wash the brush with warm water and dish soap and it cleans up well. The varnish levels up and dries very fast. I usually apply 2-3 coats, but lately I decided 1 coat is enough. More coats makes it look shinier.

This varnish makes specific mention of its protectiveness on acrylics, and every artist knows you can't paint acrylics over oils (although vice-versa is just fine). But I did an experiment and tried this over an old throwaway oil painting, just to see what would happen. What happened is that it gave a gorgeous varnish shine to the painting, and nothing else.I am convinced you have not seen an oil painting finished until you've seen it with varnish, and this makes the colors just POP. It gives it a nice, wet look, and even though it's "gloss" it's not so shiny as to be visually tacky. It's just bright.Be aware that this liquid is very thin, so watch out for bubbles if you brush too quickly. You'll need to brush slowly and use thin layers, not a heavy pool of it that's spread rapidly. I've found two layers works well, and it dries quickly, without odors or fumes like some varnishes.

This product create a lovely crystal clear high gloss finish on acrylic paintings. I've been using it for a few years now and will continue to do so.
