No driver download needed in my experience but you do have to be mindful of the baud rate of the gear you are connecting to. Cisco gear (at least older devices) are 9600 baud. Some newer gear from other vendors can connect at 115200, some are in between. That information can easily be found online. Anyway, I got a new MacBook Pro that only has four Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports, so I needed this version of USB to Console adapter cable. This saves me from having to also connect a Thunderbolt to USB adapter to use my old cable.
