Counterpoint in Jazz Arranging Book/Online Audio Paperback – December 1, 2020

I have found trying to learn jazz incredibly frustrating trying to get any kind of coherent explanation. I have a number of theory books and for the most part, they have been of little value. I bought this book on a whim and figured it was no great loss if I don't like it. The author has done a tremendous job breaking it down with the how and why to understand how to tastefully play. This book is outstanding.

This new book, dealing with the very important yet rarely addressed area of counterpoint in jazz composition, is a very welcomed and needed addition to the many great texts on composing and arranging jazz. Bob’s approached is similar to conventional counterpoint studies dealing with different species and how to deal with intervals and varying degrees of dissonance is well though out and very attainable to anyone with some previous training as a jazz musician and/or composer/arranger.This book should be added to every composer, jazz musicians, and arrangers shelf.

Awesome as always especially for composers.

Livro excelente sobre arranjo e contraponto

I love this book from the learning point of view. I've not yet finished to study it, but it looks very clear to me. An important feature is the perfect conceptual integration with the other publications (both books and youtube channel) by Berklee.

At first, I read this book cover-to-cover and got very frustrated, then stormed out of the room and exclaimed, "What a waste of money! This book is going on my 'duds' shelf!". A day or two later, I realised, 'that reaction I had to CIJA was rather strong - I think there's something of value there for me', so I fished it back out and began taking notes in the margins and underlining important points. At first, I didn't like the authors writing style. Or the layout. I still don't. But nothing in life is perfect, and often you must mine deeply if you want to reap the rewards. So it goes that astute pupils of the topic will find incredible information here if they are willing to dig deep and reach for those diamonds. Come on Mr. Pilkington - 30 years of jazz counterpoint at Berklee??? ...show me what you got!!!

Buon libro per lo studio del contrappunto jazz.Se state cercando un libro che vi spieghi le regole del contrappunto scolastico o comunque il contrappunto più stretto sconsiglio questo libro libro però se il vostro scopo è quello di apprendere una scrittura lineare o comunque creativa per quanto riguarda il jazz questo potrebbe fare il caso vostro.E ricco di esempi musicali e molti di questi sono anche registrati attraverso la piattaforma Berklee.Vi lascio un piccolo video dell’interno del libro nel caso in cui vi possa servire!Nel caso vogliate qualche altra recensione cliccate sul tasto non mi piace
