Good option if you are on a budget
To address a couple of points in previous reviews: First, these tiles do come vacuum packed and do need time/help to fully expand - about 25% of mine needed the wash/dry treatment to plump up but once done they have been fine. Second, THESE ARE NOT FOR SOUND PROOFING. Acoustic tiles like these are used to manage the internal sound reflection in a room - they will do next to nothing to prevent sound travelling between rooms or other spaces. Don't buy them if what you actually want is sound insulation! As to the tiles themselves, they are clearly budget items. Compared to more "professional" acoustic tiles the foam is considerably less dense reducing their effectiveness. They are also not entirely square, but not in a predictable way, so they are hard to arrange in a grid on backing boards without them becoming out of line. I was going to knock a mark off for each of these issues but on reflection these are still reasonably effective and way cheaper than pro-grade stuff so I'm giving them four stars as they still represent reasonable value at the price.

soak in water to see magic
I was very skeptical to buy this after so many bad reviews, but still gave it a try after reading someones review about soaking in water. I took two pieces, one I kept it as is, the other I soaked in water. You can see the change for yourself from the image. Need to test sound proofing as well, waiting to install

I bought 156 foam tiles.. in depth review
DO NOT SOAK in water!! It’s is not worth the time and energy. The best technique was to carefully peel each flat tile and place 6 of them at a time in the home dryer. On low heat I tumbled dry them for 23min. But in the first few and up to 5min, I would stop the dryer and re-arrange the tiles so none was never stuck on the sides of the tumbler. If I didn’t do this, certain tiles wouldn’t expand because it was wedged onto the side. Once all had expanded a little I would let it tumble dry/expand fully for the 23min.I also tried leaving them out for 48hours, but noticed the final result didn’t look as plump and firm as after tumble drying them. There is definately some tiles that would never expand or partially not expand in sections. Out of the 156 tiles, I had 4 tiles that never expanded. Of those 4, I soaked in the water and rinsed and repeated until it looked like it had expanded.. they wrung it out to tumble dry. The final result was not a normal looking tile. I regret wasting the time with water. And out of the 156, about 20 had some rows that was completely flat and never expanded. I wasn’t too bothered for my project, because I had to cut some to fit my final space. For sticking to the wall, I used Gorilla Spray Glue. And it was awesome but the overspray got everywhere. There are a lot of variance in size of the tiles. When you are sticking them in a grid pattern, it doesn’t always line up. But I found If you pull and stretch the shorter ones when you are sticking them to the wall - it averages out pretty well. There are some variance in the color as well. It didn’t seem obvious until I saw the finished wall and noticed the color patches.Entire project took a week. There were many times I got really frustrated with this product - but then when I saw the finished product on the wall, I think it was worth the time and effort. Considering how affordable it is - it’s decent.

They smell when opened.
The panels arrived on time and in perfect condition. On opening the package the smell was terrible and the panels were as flat as paper. The smell is from the manufacturing process. But following the instructions of putting them in warm water and drying them they are perfect and the smell is no more. I bought these panels for my sons online gaming studio and they work perfectly.

Not worth the hassle!
They arrived very flat packed, which is stated in the description. The instructions were to leave for 24-48 hours or soak in water. I left for 48 hours and they still had not achieved their final shape. So I soaked in a bath and dried, and still 3 of the 12 were deformed. It's taken 4 days of hard work and electric from the dehumidifier only to find it's a sub standard product. Will never buy again.
