Does it crush the little balls inside the capsules?

As far as I know, pills having "little balls" in them are time-released medications and so, should never, never be crushed. And so, have not tried to crush these type pills. Best to double check with a Pharmacist before using them in this way. (Sorry if I have mis-read your question, but the results of smashing the wrong type of medication might prove to be harmful and/or life threatening.)

No, it does NOT! It tries to smash pills into small pieces, but it does not. Not a good product!

How finely crushed do the pills come out? Is it a true powder? Or more like tiny chunks?

This does not result in a powder. I believed the person who said it did and wasted my money and my cats wellbeing on this item. It does not have two settings for crushing, as one states. Also, just fyi, it does not do a 1/2 cut, as the blade is not aligned properly for this. More like 1/3 and 2/3 pieces
