Ideal first Lego set - love this set, and this Lego line
We couldn't be more pleased with this set. We wanted to buy our son an impressive, exciting Lego set as his big fifth birthday gift, and this absolutely fit the bill. The castle is very cool -- large and detailed with jail, ghost, throne, dinner, flags, etc. The catapults work, and they are awesome. There are so many story lines for my son to explore here. He didn't know much about knights and castle tales before this -- Lego has turned out to be a great introduction to that whole world, and we're enjoying sharing related stories with him. This set provides ample room for storage (there's even room for a few small additional sets we've accumulated, in addition to the castle stuff), and lots of extra bricks -- making this a very perfect first set.I'm so impressed with the instructions. My son can follow them independently. For real -- he can sit down with a big box of unassembled bricks, pull out the book himself, and work all the way through it. The finished result is impressive, and it's a huge confidence-booster for him. I am so impressed that they also included a second set of instructions, "Build and Rebuild," explaining how to rebuild castle and cart elements into a separate tower for the dark knight and a carriage for the king. In this way, I think this set teaches my son not only how to follow the instructions, but how to move past them and have the courage to dismantle what he's built in order to create something new. There are lots of bricks in this set that are not accounted for in the instructions, which encourages him to build on and think creatively. This might seem silly if you happen to have lots of other Legos lying around, but we don't, and it's great. At first, we helped him stay on task step by step, but he quickly learned how to build it all independently. He can even manipulate the little orange tool included to handle the trickier assemblies/disassemblies by himself.A smaller set would have been a fine introduction to Lego, and at first I was wishing we had worked up to this. It is important to us that our son learns to build independently and follow the directions, and at first, he only had the stamina for a couple of castle elements at a time. Then it all clicked (ha), and suddenly he was able to construct the entire thing quickly and with no help. So as it turned out, this set has turned out to be both a great smaller set, and a great large build to work up to, because the castle elements are encased within separate bags and portions of the instruction book.I'm so glad we got this set. I have to say that I'm also glad we waited until now. All kids are different, but at 5, our son is old enough to not only build independently and play imaginatively with what he creates, but also old enough to take care of his Legos, keep them in one spot, and store them out of reach of his baby sister. Our entire family is loving this new activity. While we want to make sure he has the space to figure out how to build it all himself, we of course love having fun with him, and playing with this set couldn't be more fun.I'll soon shop for another Lego Junior set or two. After mastering the instructions for this set, he can handle independent construction of very small Lego City sets (and they are an exciting, awesome challenge at this stage!), but Lego Junior is still a perfect fit for him. Can't recommend this product highly enough.

🔆 Junior Refers To Difficulty Level, Not Size Of The Blocks. 🔆
This is a great set! I'm not exactly a lego enthusiast so I thought Lego Juniors were a size of lego somewhere in-between a Duplo and the small original Legos. Much to my surprise, when it arrived I learned that this is not the case. They are the same size as the little original ones. What makes this set junior is apparently the instructions as well as the item being built. As far as I can tell, that is the only thing Junior about it.My son loves the castle set and it is easy enough for him to build on his own. He is 7 and these are pretty perfect for him. There is one thing about these particular style of lego's, and that is that they are versatile as to what they build. Instead of the set coming with one major build piece and a possibly an accent piece or two, these are nice because instead the directions show you how to make two or three different really cool toys instead of just one plane, or ship etc . This however becomes a little of a downside wen your child thinks that because the box shows all three at once, there are enough pieces to build tham all to play with at the same time. For instance in this set if you build the castle and want the knight and the horse cart to play with at the castle thats impossible because youve got to tear down the castle in order to have the necessary pieces with which to build the horse and cart with.✔️ OVERALL: Really pleased with the set. Very cute and the level of quality we have come to expect from Lego. If you have any questions leave them in the comments and I will be happy to answer.

Pieces are small, not larger than the regular Legos, I don't know what 'Junior' means.
I was surprised to see they were the same size as the 'regular' sized Legos. I could never figure out why they are referred to 'Junior' sized. Also, I was really looking for just 'Legos' pieces but could only find the 'themed kits. I thought Legos were to inspire creativity, not copy the booklet. However, that said my grandson (age 5) absolutely loved his Legos, but he carried the booklet around like it was his Lego bible so he would know pieces were to be used to replicate the pictures. I had to begin making whatever I wanted before he (and his older sisters, ages 5 & 7) would also start making their own objects, creations. But, again, my grandson loved them. One tip with these 'kits,' my grandson wanted to keep all the parts separated - and there were many very small pieces like the helmets for the knights, the little swords for them to carry, etc., VERY EASY TO LOSE (like they came because, again, there was a castle to be built) so we use zip lock bags to keep the pieces all separated ... the kind with the 'slider' on top because he couldn't close the ones you just 'press' together. Made it much easier for him.

My 5 year old grandson loved it.
My 5 year old grandson loved it...but, the Lego set is suppose to be intended for children 4 - 7 years old and it really isn't. The pieces are almost as small as the regular size Legos for much older kids/people. I was very disappointed with the tiny pieces. I don't see how this set could be for someone in that age group. The container is well made and good for storage.
